The Life of Kitten Bucho – 3 Kitten Food

The last time a kitten came to my house was eleven years ago, when my husband rescued Shimao from a bicycle parking lot. Shimao was a weaned kitten, over a month old. Also, at that time we had a large family of two female cats and three male cats, so some cats took care of him, there weren't many chance for humans involved.

However, this time, the only male cat at home was Shimao, and Bucho was an infant who was about to be weaned. His teeth were full of small fangs, but his eyes were still blue. It seems that the eyes are blue when they are about three weeks old. Japanese cats tend to have golden eyes or green eyes as they become adults.

First, we had to find food for Bucho, who was only three weeks old.

On the day of the rescue, I was given a small sample bag of kitten food at the nearby veterinary hospital where I always take care of my kitten, but there only one bag was not enough, it will be consumed for a few days. And he needed milk yet. The day after I rescued him, I walked 15 minutes to a major supermarket and finally got some kitten milk. However, there was no baby bottle.

I went back to the veterinary hospital again, I was able to get a baby bottle. However, there was no milk for the kitten, so the fifteen minute walk to the major supermarket was well worth it. Fortunately, dry food for kittens under one year old was available at a small hardware store nearby.

Bucho couldn't drink milk from a bottle. I don't know if the structure of the baby bottle is bad or not, but Bucho couldn't do like the kitten in the cat video on YouTube.

So for the first two weeks, Bucho's staple food was dry food soaked in milk.

Every time he ate, the area around his mouth would become splattered with milk, which would dry up and become lumpy. It looked painful when I wiped it with gauze, but Bucho still can't clean himself. He couldn't drink water, so we had no choice but to feed him dry food soaked in milk, no matter how loose he was.

Once this messy food period is over and we wipe his face clean, a handsome kitten will emerge.
