Japan just recorded its earliest cherry blossom bloom in 1,200 years. Scientists warn it's a symptom of the larger climate crisis

(CNN)Think of Japan in the spring, and the image that comes to mind is likely the country's famous cherry blossoms, also known as "sakura" -- white and pink flowers, bursting across cities and mountains, petals covering the ground.
日本の春を想像してみよう。多分一番最初に思いつくのは街中、山や路上を覆うピンクと白色の有名な桜であると思う。

The flowers, which experience a "peak bloom" that only lasts a few days, have been revered in Japan for more than a thousand years. Crowds celebrate with viewing parties, flocking to the most popular locations to take photos and have picnics underneath the branches.
「満開」の期間が数日しかない桜は日本で1000年以上愛されている。人々は写真を撮ることや、花見をするため有名な場所に集まる。

But this year, cherry blossom season has come and gone in the blink of an eye, in one of the earliest blooms on record -- and scientists warn it's a symptom of the larger climate crisis threatening ecosystems everywhere.
だが今年、桜開花シーズンは一瞬で来てしまい、記録上最速であった。科学者は生態系を襲っている気候危機の症状だ、と述べた。

Yasuyuki Aono, a researcher at Osaka Prefecture University, has gathered records from Kyoto back to 812 AD from historical documents and diaries. In the central city of Kyoto, cherry blossoms peaked on March 26, the earliest in more than 1,200 years, Aono said.
大阪府立大学の研究者である青野 靖之さんは、歴史的資料や日記から紀元前812年から今までの京都の記録を集めた。中心地の京都では1200年の間史上最速である3月26日に開花した、と青野さんは発表した。

Peak bloom reached on 26 March in Kyoto and experts say impact of global warming is to blame
3月26日に京都で桜が開花し、科学者によると地球温暖化によってだと。
Japan’s famous cherry blossoms have reached their flowery peak in many places earlier this year than at any time since formal records began nearly 70 years ago, with experts saying the climate crisis is the likely cause.
日本の有名な桜は正式な70年前の記録の中一番最速だった。科学者は気候危機による、と述べた。
Referred to in Japan as sakura, the blossoms used to reach their peak in April, coinciding with the start of the new school and business year. Yet the blooms have been creeping earlier, and now most years the flowers are largely gone before the first day of school.
日本で「さくら」と呼ばれている花は昔、学校やビジネスの初めである4月に開花していた。だが、桜の開花はどんどん早くなり、花のほとんどが新学期より早く散ってしまった。
This year, peak bloom was reached on 26 March in the ancient capital of Kyoto, the earliest since the Japan Meteorological Agency started collecting the data in 1953 and 10 days ahead of the 30-year average. Similar records were set this year in more than a dozen cities across Japan.
今年の開花のピークは古都の京都で3月26日であり、日本の気象庁に記録されている1953年からのデータによると30年の平均より10日早い。沢山の他の場所でも同じような記録が記録された。
