China denounces G7 after statement on Xinjiang and Hong Kong

In a joint statement at the end of a three-day summit, leaders of the G7 countries urged China to "respect human rights and fundamental freedoms".

3日間に及んだサミットの最終日に共同声明で、G7各国の首脳は、中国に対し「人権と基本的自由を尊重する」よう強く求めた。

Issues highlighted included abuses against the Uyghur Muslim minority group and the crackdown on Hong Kong pro-democracy activists.

注目された問題に、ウイグル人のイスラム教徒少数派に対する虐待や、香港の民主化運動活動家に対する弾圧などがある。

China's embassy in the UK accused the G7 of "baseless accusations".

英国の中国大使館は、G7各国に対し「根拠のない非難だ」と反論した。

Group of Seven leaders on Sunday scolded China over human rights in its Xinjiang region, called for Hong Kong to keep a high degree of autonomy and demanded a full and thorough investigation of the origins of the coronavirus in China.

G7各国首脳は1日、中国の新疆ウイグル自治区での人権問題を非難し、香港に高度な自治権を維持するよう求め、中国で新型コロナウイルスが発生した原因の徹底的な調査を要求した。

China's rise has also unnerved the United States: President Joe Biden casts China as the main strategic competitor and has vowed to confront China's "economic abuses" and push back against human rights violations.

中国の台頭は米国をも動揺させた。ジョー・バイデン大統領は中国を主要な戦略的競争相手と位置づけ、中国の「経済的虐待」に立ち向かい、人権侵害に反対すると誓った。

"We will promote our values, including by calling on China to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms, especially in relation to Xinjiang and those rights, freedoms and high degree of autonomy for Hong Kong enshrined in the Sino-British Joint Declaration," the G7 said.

G7は、「我々は、特に新疆及び中英共同宣言に謳われている香港の権利、自由及び高度な自治権に関する人権及び基本的自由の尊重を中国に求めることを含め、我々の価値観を促進する。」と明らかにした。
