The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called on Sunday for an immediate halt to what it described as Israel’s barbaric attacks on Gaza and blamed “systematic crimes” against the Palestinians for hostilities now in their seventh day.

イスラム協力機構（OIC）は日曜日、イスラエルがガザへ行ったとされる野蛮な攻撃の即時停止を求め、敵意を持ったパレスチナ人に対する「組織的犯罪」が7日目に入ったと非難した。

The OIC statement came after a virtual meeting in which Saudi Arabia condemned the violation of the sanctity of Muslim holy sites and evictions of Palestinians from their homes in East Jerusalem.

イスラム協力機構（OIC）の声明は、サウジアラビアがイスラム教徒の聖地である神聖な場所への侵害と東エルサレムに家を持つパレスチナ人の家からの退去を非難したバーチャル会議の後に発表された。

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates called for a ceasefire. The UAE and Bahrain had along with other Arab states last year broken a longstanding taboo in the region by establishing formal ties with Israel, with tacit approval from Gulf power Riyadh.

サウジアラビア、バーレーン、UAEは停戦を求めた。UAEとバーレーンは昨年、湾岸に位置するリヤドから暗黙の了解を得り、イスラエルと正式な関係を結ぶことにより、アラブ諸国で長年続いていたタブーを破った。

The overall death toll in Gaza now stands at 197 people, including 58 children and 34 women, with 1,235 injured, according to the Hamas-controlled health ministry. Israel says dozens of militants are among the dead.

Meanwhile, the UN Security Council held an emergency meeting, with international mediators hoping to broker a ceasefire.

UN Secretary General Ant ó nio Guterres opened the meeting by describing the violence as "utterly appalling" and said the fighting must stop immediately.
