Aliens! From [Hatsutorin] comes a collaboration of Humanoid-type Intelligent Life Forms, "FunnFunn"! Introducing the popular SOFUBI!
I'd like to introduce you to [Hatsutorin], who is conducting the production activity in Nagano Prefecture!
Let's do it as a: "Humanoid-type intelligent life form" edition!
We are proud to introduce you to some of the most unique artists working in the world of SOFUBI!
And [Hatsutorin] was kind enough to create a Toy's King Limited Edition paint of "FunnFunn", which went on sale from T-BASE on April 8.
Here it is! We've collaborated with the pop and surreal original figure, FunnFunn! And two of them!
The announcement images and videos on SNS until the completion were really great! *During the invasion...*, and speaking of Hatsutorin, this custom paint job looks as if it was printed! Thank you so much for applying special paint for Toy's King this time.
As well as the size and facial features, the sketch that is drawn here is also wonderfully cute!
It is a work of art, as the paint is applied on top of the delicate paint on the
SOFUBI. It's like a piece of art that you can easily carry around.
This cute palm-sized SOFUBI figure is about 7.5cm (2.95 inches) tall! We had a
chance to interview them about their motifs and how it came to be made, so we'd like to introduce them to you as well!
First of all, the artist,
It seems that Toshie (female, design & molding) and Shinji (male, planning &
assistant) are working as a couple (married).
FunnFunn's particular point of interest is,
-Simple form that allows for various patterns to be drawn on the bodysuit.
-A feeling of size that fits in your hand, which makes you want to collect it.
So, this picture is hand-painted! When you look at [Hatsutorin]'s Twitter, she's
drawing! It's interesting because it contains the production process.
It's a very tasteful paint job. There is a flow of painting SOFUBI and finishing
some small parts with a brush, but it's also the appeal of Hatsutorin to apply more design paint to it. Recently, the customization of Futoagon and Teke Teke was also done in a very nice way, making use of the original design!
The episode/concept/story about this SOFUBI character:
The episode was originally one of many illustrations Toshie had done in her
sketchbook. In 2018, the two of them started to make the prototype, turned it into a resin figure, and started selling it.
The concept is to create an expression that seems to be expressionless, but is
somehow pensive and irresistible. Depending on the recipient's emotions at the time, it can look like laughing, eerie, or not thinking about anything... They were particular about creating such facial expressions.
The story takes place in a far distant universe. there was a planet inhabited by
FunnFunns. On the planet, there was a problem of running out of resources due to the population growth of FunnFunns. To solve this problem, a spaceship took off after receiving a search order to move to another planet... -The FunnFunns are gentle but cold. An alien who has two sides and behaves like a human being. In the future, they plan to make various characters living on the planet three-dimensional.
One of the most important aspects of making SOFUBI is painting.
They are careful to bring out the design that reflects figure paintings. For this
reason, their work is not designed to be touched and played with. It is more for "decorate and enjoy it and enjoy watching it".

Finally, as a unique idea
- As a method of expression, we are producing mainly on both sculptures and
illustrations. We place importance on D2C, which allows us to exhibit at SNS and events, and respond directly to customers, and we value the one-on-one sense of distance and relationship of "Hatsutorin and you". Our goal is to live with the works we've created and the works we were involved in, and we are aiming to be the artists in a broad sense in order to achieve that goal. Currently, we are working in a combination of two people with a division of labor system like a company.
So they started with an illustration, and then took the techniques they developed in that illustration and put them into a SOFUBI to create a unique and original SOFUBI called "FunnFunn"!
