高校生の時、クラスの友人がカーペンターズを聞いていて、「大人っぽい曲…」と彼女のことと共に憧れていました。その頃には既にカレンは亡くなっていたんですよね。大学生になってそれを知って、随分驚きました。カーペンターズの曲は、今聴いても、そして最近の曲と比べて短い曲が多いにもかかわらず、耳に残るメロディ、フレーズ、そして声の豊かさ。すごいなぁと思います。Close to youは、好きな男の子になかなか近づけない、少し切ない歌詞ではあるのですが、今回のライブでは、そんな男の子を好きになった自分のことを嬉しく思っている気持ちも、少し伝わるような雰囲気も出せれば、と思っています。
