Celebrating Yappli’s 10th Anniversary Cumulative Downloads of Apps Developed on Yappli Reached 150 Million! Looking back on the Ever-Expanding Use of Apps with Infographics

Yappli, Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan, Representative Director and CEO: Yasubumi Ihara, hereinafter “Yappli, Inc.”), a company providing a no-code mobile app platform Yappli, celebrated the 10th anniversary of its founding and its flagship app platform Yappli on April 1, 2023. We are deeply grateful for the support of many people involved. In commemoration of this milestone, we have prepared an infographic. 

■ Yappli, an app platform in its 10th year

When we launched our service in 2013, smartphones had just begun to spread in Japan. There were few engineers for app development, and developing an app required a huge cost, so only large enterprises could afford to have their own apps. In the midst of this situation, we quickly recognized the untapped potential of apps and envisioned that if there was a no-code CMS (Content Management System) that anyone could use to easily develop and operate apps, we could contribute to companies without engineers. With “Mobile Tech for All” as our mission, we launched the app platform “Yappli” in April 2013.   

Over the past 10 years, Yappli has grown into a comprehensive service that supports mobile DX (digital transformation), which has been adopted by over 600 companies, reaching a total of 783 apps, and approximately 150 million cumulative app downloads.

■ Creating a Platform for Easy App Operations

Yappli, Inc. provides a platform that enables customers to build and operate their own apps. We constantly strive to improve our service and add new features, with over 200 updates per year and more than 40 different features available. Our Customer Success support, in which we work closely with customers to help them succeed, has received positive feedback, and our retention rate remains over 99%. 

Furthermore, Yappli, Inc. has acquired patents for its unique technologies, including a “restructuring patent” that allows for easy reflection of settings made in the admin screen to the production app, and a “push notification patent” that allows previewing of push notification content in a test app before sending it to the live app. 

■ Unique App Features for enjoyable and convenient experience

The push notification feature, unique to apps, is used to enhance the usability of the app by quickly displaying and notifying users of new information, special offers, reservation confirmations, and more in the notification area of their device without having to launch the app. The total number of push notifications sent for apps created with Yappli has reached 491,000 messages (across different types of push notifications), with a total of 50.5 billion notifications sent to devices that have downloaded the app. 

The coupon feature is also actively used to enhance the purchasing experience at stores and e-commerce, with a cumulative total of 36.25 million coupon uses. 

Usually, when reflecting developed content or systems in the production app, the developer needs to go through store submissions, and the user needs to update the app. By utilizing Yappli’s restructuring feature, which allows for easy reflection in the production app, the app can always be kept in the latest state, providing users with more value and improved experiences. In the past year alone, there have been 144,000 restructurings across all apps, with an average of one update every three days for each app in terms of content and functionality. 

Since its launch in 2021, Yappli CRM (Customer Relationship Management), a customer management system, has seen an increase of approximately 160% in the amount of customer information being stored over the past year. There is a clear trend that higher active user rates correspond to higher engagement rates, indicating that communication and management with customers on the app are rapidly expanding.  

■ Increased Utilization as Sales Tools and Organizational Communication

Yappli has grown as a marketing tool supporting customer communication for companies, primarily in the retail and restaurant sectors, such as apparel and general merchandise. 

In the past few years, there has been a demand for internal DX to improve operational efficiency, and the utilization of the B2B portal app “Yappli for Business” and the internal portal app “Yappli for Company” to support sales activities and facilitate smooth organizational communication has been progressing. With over 125 apps developed, “Yappli for Business” has been downloaded over 643,000 times, and “Yappli for Company” has been downloaded over 144,000 times, supporting daily engagement increase and operational efficiency.  

■ Expanding Use of Yappli

Yappli, Inc. has been focusing on supporting app development centered on the use of Yappli for Marketing, Business, and Company. However, recently we have seen various industries utilizing our services.   

We have developed over 150 apps for various industries, including schools, government, entertainment, membership support, and events. Yappli’s use cases have expanded to various scenes in society.

Thanks to everyone’s support, Yappli, Inc. has reached its 10th anniversary. When we founded the company, I said to my co-founders, “Let’s give it our all for the first two years, and even if it doesn’t work out, we’ll surely find a job somewhere else.” I desperately prevented the word “living dead” (referring to a situation where a business does not grow despite receiving investment and is far from going public) from creeping into my mind and kept moving forward, step by step, even when things didn’t go well. 

As a result, 10 years have passed, and our business has not only avoided becoming a “living dead”, but has experienced rapid growth and successfully gone public, continuing to grow even now. With over 250 employees, we have been able to reach this 10-year milestone thanks to the support of our many customers, employees, shareholders, and families. It is 10 times more fun now than it was 10 years ago. Working together with 250 colleagues, pushing each other to improve, is overwhelmingly enjoyable, and the future of no-code software is bright.
