人が好きなんです、きっと。人との付き合いって難しいことも時々あるけど、自分だけではできないこともあるし、何よりも人と関わらなければおもしろくない。「ものをつくってみたい」という方のお手伝いをすることは、僕にとって人と触れ合う楽しい方法だと思っています。

「使い続けたくなる道具が自分の手で完成した！」って喜ばれるその瞬間と笑顔を共有できたり、その人が自分でも気づいていない「眠っていた創作意欲」が目覚めるきっかけになれば、それは僕自身にとってもすごくうれしいことなんです。

人によってそれぞれ違うとは思いますが、「ものづくり」って、匠の技とか職人さんだけの世界のような敷居の高さみたいな、少し入って行きにくいところがあるような気がするんですね。そう感じている人に、木や紙や塗料やタイルなどの素材の性格やくせを活かす方法を知ってもらったり、技を補う便利な工具や安全な使い方をお伝えすることで、敷居を少しだけでも低くして、何よりも「おもしろい」ってワクワクしてもらえることが僕のできることです。

そのために、僕自身が材料についてよく知っておくことはもちろん、その特性を活かすために先輩たちが伝え続けてくれる技術を身につけておくことは、これからも必要だと思います。そのうえで大切にしていることは、「創る人は使う人でもある」ということです。使うシーンや使いやすさから、閃いて創るものを決めていくまで、僕は意見やアイデアを出しすぎないように気をつけています。創る人自身に「思いを形にする」過程を楽しんでもらえたら良いなって。

この工房を2年前に立ち上げたのも、僕が創っているところをたまたま通りかかって興味をもってのぞいてもらい、一緒にものを創る「みんなの工作室」みたいな場所になっていけば良いなと考えてのことなんです。ここで出会った人からヒントをもらうこともあるし、一緒におもしろい取り組みを始めたり、ここで知り合った人どうしがものを創ったり、毎日ワクワクしています。道具や設備も少しずつ増えてきました。お気軽に寄ってみてください。「創ること」を一緒に楽しみましょう。

I like people, surely. Sometimes it's difficult to get along with people, but there are things that I can't do alone, and above all, it's not interesting if you don't interact with people. I think helping people who want to make things is a fun way to interact with people.
If you can share a smile with the moment that you are happy that you want to use the tool you want to keep using, or if you have a chance to wake up to a “motivation to sleep” That's a great thing for me too.

I think that it differs from person to person, but I feel that “manufacturing” is a little difficult to get into, such as the skill of a craftsman or the height of a threshold just like a craftsman. Let people who feel that way know how to make use of the nature and habits of materials such as wood, paper, paint, and tiles, tell them useful tools to supplement their skills, and how to use them safely. Above all else, what I can do is to be excited about “interesting”

To that end, I think that it will be necessary for me to know the materials well, as well as to acquire the skills that masters will continue to convey in order to take advantage of these properties. On top of that, what we value is that the person who creates it is also the person who uses it. I am careful not to give too much opinions and ideas until I decide to create something that flashes from the scene I use and the ease of use. I hope the creators will enjoy the process of “shaping their thoughts”.

I thought this studio was opened two years ago, so that it would be nice if it would become a place like "Everybody's workroom" where I happen to pass by and take a peek with interest and create things together. That's it. I sometimes get hints from the people I meet here, start interesting projects together, and make people interact with each other. Tools and equipment have been increasing little by little. Please feel free to drop by. Let's enjoy "creating" together.
