　存命中には「親友」なんてことばどころか、「友達」とさえも言ったことがなかった。

　そんなクッサイ表現の対極で、若さのエネルギーを泡立てて発酵させながら絡み合って、互いにつかず離れず生存していたのだ。

　同じ高校に通った。関西学院高等部。

　実際の付き合いは、在学中は皆無で、高校を出てから濃ゆくなった。
　理由は、二人ともエスカレーターであがれるはずの大学の推薦を取り消された数少ない同志だったからである。

　その男の名前は杉中洋成。
　本人は、ヨウセイ で、通していたが、そいつの母親が仏壇に向かって、

「ヒロナリ…久保さんが来てくれはったよ……」

　と、たしかに言ったので、やっぱり、ヒロナリ が正しかったようである。
　平凡を嫌ったのであろう。奴は生涯周辺を騙し続けたのである。

　高校の時からソニー・ロリンズに憧れ、染まってかぶれ、同時に授業をサボッて……酒屋でもろきゅう をあてに、立ち呑みするぐらいの酒飲みだったので、音楽とタダ酒が両立できるナイトクラブの バイショウ（商売）バンドで、テナーサックスを吹いていた。

　ところがテナーサックスひとすじに生きたあげく、26歳の時に歯茎の病気で挫折。

　その後、のたうちまわりながら、テナーサックスにかわる、自分が心底打ち込める対象を探し続け、マリンスポーツからヨット、そして最後は国際的なトップクラスの船長の資格までを取得し、大型客船やタンカーなどに乗っていた。

　そいつの若いころの口癖が、

「40歳の俺は存在しない」

　という、おだやかでないものだった。
　しかしその根拠を、一度でも示したことがなかった。

　最大目標であった資格免許をイギリスで取得したあと、次はフロリダで飛行機の操縦にチャレンジした。それが39歳の末だった。

　そいつはいつも、私に電話をかけてくるときは必ず、

「おまえか？ オレや」と、言った。

　それで通じる関係が、ツボにハマってうれしかったのである。

　今朝、久しぶりに夢に出てきた。

　それもあって、ふと探していると、たまたま英語の記事をみつけた。

　英語ができる人には、ぜひ、読んでもらいたい。

Licensed to fly planes and helicopters, Yosei Suginaka was a skilled and prudent pilot, his local flight instructors said.
Suginaka, 39, of Kobe, Japan, was on a training flight Tuesday when he apparently lost control of a Cessna 152 and the single-engine plane plummeted into the Everglades.
It was his second training flight of the day, following an uneventful ride in a helicopter.
"He had just come back from England, where he got his European yacht certification and was using his time here to get the additional helicopter experience he needed to fly in Japan," said Keith Mackey, owner of Heliflight, a pilot training school at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.
Suginaka arrived in time to indulge another abiding interest -- he was also a licensed yacht and submarine captain -- by attending last week's Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
After the plane fell out of the sky about two miles west of the Sawgrass Expressway at Atlantic Boulevard, it took more than five hours for divers to pull his body out of the mangled wreckage.
The Broward Medical Examiner's office said Suginaka died of multiple blunt trauma and classified his death as an accident.
A heavy-duty helicopter pulled the wreckage of the 19-year-old two-seater plane out of five feet of water and muck Wednesday. The pieces were trucked to a hangar at Executive Airport, where National Transportation Safety Board investigators will try to determine the cause of the crash.
So far, investigators have found no engine or structural problems, said Oney Ramirez, the owner of Airborne Systems, where Suginaka rented the Cessna.
Suginaka received his airplane license in January and his helicopter license in April, his instructors said.
"Any time that someone with the school hasn't flown for 90 days, he has to go up with an instructor," said Ramirez, who sent one of his instructors up with Suginaka last week.
