This is utter madness, a self-replicating RNA means an uncontrolled dose, even if starting from a lower dose. More importantly, there is a clear potential of uncontrolled transfer to others, via exosomes, making a mockery of consent. Completely unethical and unacceptable!

They don't specify in that article, or anywhere on the web. It is usually done with the backbone of an alphavirus or flavivirus that contains sequences coding for the replicase proteins (but not for structural proteins needed to make virions), plus the antigen of interest.
