Tokyo Areas I Stayed

Just a Short description of the areas I have stayed in Tokyo which you find useful for reference. Updated 28/3/2023

Tokyo Tower Area
Very quiet neighborhood with only the Tokyo Metro. Some of the higher end hotels are here.

Shibuya

Obviously, this is one of the livelier areas at night so if you are a night person there is plenty to eat and do. However, it's a very crowded and noisy area and it has one of the bigger train stations to navigate so you might want to factor that in.  The hotels here are usually Pricier.

Ikebukuro

There is a good mix of price range of hotels here and there is places to eat and explore at night. It is well connected with various rail lines but as Ikebukuro is at the north side so usually its the last station of your journey back home.

Ueno

Has great mix of hotels, food and entertainment  though the area looks more rundown and is also very crowded. Has the Keisei skyliner to Narita Airport and plenty of metro lines and the shinkansens to the north.

Akihibara

Electric town is actually a good spot if you are going to watch wrestling as it has the chuo line to Suidobashi (Korakuen) and KH line to Warabi (iceribbon dojo). Places like shinkiba and yokohama areas are also easy to figure out

Gotanda

Similar to Akihibara except there is no anime stuff in the area. Its pretty good location as you can easily access the wrestling venues from here and you can come back here for dinner.

Kanda

Its the business district before Tokyo Station. Quiet area with some good budget hotels. Would recommend you stay near the station area if you want to buy food at night.

Shinagawa

It has the JR Yamatone and the shinkansen to the south. It's a very quiet and boring area at night though.

Sugamo

The Toudakan is nearby. To be honest, as it is the north part of the JR Yamatone line, I would recommend elsewhere though it's a quiet and nice neighborhood.

Asakusa Area

This is great area to stay as there is plenty to do and eat though you might need to transfer a few trains on your return as its not the JR line. Its is also one of the "climb the stairs" train station (not sure if they had installed a  lift in the area.

Ginza

I had stayed in the north part of Ginza which is nearer to the Tokyo station.
area

Pros
Plenty of subway stations in the area
Has plenty of shopping and dining options and attractions to explore

Cons
The hotels in the area are usually in the higher or middle range , not many budget options

Toyocho

This is the Koto area north of the Odaiba area.

Pros
Has decent amount of late night eateries
Has a short bus to Shinkiba First Ring Area
Hotels here usually cheaper

Cons
Only one train line , the Tozai Line , which can get crowded at times.
