クリス・モズデル 第3回古典の日文化基金賞・受賞コメント

What an honour it is to have received this award, especially celebrating the classic literature of a country that I have admired and been immersed in for much of my life. From the early beginnings with my lyrics for Yellow Magic Orchestra and other musical endeavours, to the myriad cultural quests that have fascinated me, Japan has been a wealth of inspiration. I have been irradiated by a marvellous hereditary history, filled with unique modes of expression that Japan offers. This is the country I was meant to be in––a poets’ country, an aesthetic sanctuary, the Land of Eight Isles where couriers a thousand years ago delivered messages in verse to a sophisticated society––surely the country that I was destined to be a part of. Hopefully I too can be a courier that passes down this influence, the classical roots of a beloved country. Thank you for this recognition, one that I am truly grateful for.
 
 
なんという光栄なことでしょう、私の人生の大半において崇拝し、我が身を捧げ続けたこの国の古典文学を冠する賞をいただけるということは。イエロー・マジック・オーケストラをはじめとする音楽家たちへの詞作から始まり、魅了され続けた末に重ねられた、その幾度もの文化的探求に至るまで、私にとって、日本はインスピレーションの宝庫であり続けてきました。私は、脈々と受け継がれる輝かしき歴史に光を与えられ、この国に自ずと求められる心 / 表現の独特なあり方にこの身を満たされ続けてきたのです。この国こそ、詩人たちの国であり、美の聖地であり、一千年前にはその洗練された社会様式として使者たちが詩歌に想いを託していた大八洲国──私がその一員となるべく定められていた国だったのだと確信しています。望むらくは、私自身もまた、愛すべきこの国の古典の根をなしてきたものを、またその影の数々を、未来に手渡すことのできる使者のひとりとなることができますことを。ありがとうございました。ご理解に、心よりの御礼を申し上げたいと思います。
