S2 Ep.9: What is job-hunting?

There are various ways that people go about job-hunting, but these are some steps that were highlighted during our conversation with Mami san in episode 9. 

Point 1: Job-hunting steps: 

1. Strive to do your best in areas that you are interested in.
2. Self-analysis - It is important to firstly understand yourself, your experiences and what you have to offer before going into the job-hunting process. Using the 5Ws 1H may be useful during this process.
 3. Company research - research about the companies you are interested in and understand what you like about them. It's also important to figure out how you would fit into those companies. There are many other ways to do company research, including:
・Talk with people who know about the company, as described in Japan as OBOG, meaning senpais who are currently working in your company of interest.
・Search for data on the internet
・Internship
・Briefing sessions
 4. Interview / ES / WEB test
 Job hunting starts on March 3, and that's when more information is shared by various companies. 
 5. Preliminary decision from the company

Point 2: Mami san also shared about her sister's job-hunting experience, as is written below:
- Her sister initially had a negative image of job-hunting
- Between December - January, she was quite anxious because she was not sure of what to do.
 - In February, she decided to act despite her discomfort and proceed at her own pace. 
 - In March, she started job-hunting and researching about different corporations.
 - In April, after receiving some interview offers, she decided on her first-choice company.
 - In May, she sat her Interview / Test
 - By the end of June, she had received a preliminary offer from the company

At the end of the experience, she reflected and came to the conclusion that job-hunting is the same as love. It is not one-sided and the only way for it to be successful is if both parties like and agree with each other. Additionally, she realized the importance of understanding one's appeal and communicating that appeal during the job-hunting process. 

 Point 3: Advice for people who are interesting in searching for jobs
 ① Don't rush yourself
Instead of rushing and comparing yourself to others and demeaning yourself, do your best one day at a time and take things at your own pace. 
 × This does not necessarily mean you should ease up and take things slowly when you can be more proactive. 

 ② You can rely on various others for support
 Job-hunting is not something you do alone. So:
 ・ Listen to the support and advice of those around you 
 ・ Get as much information as you can from the people around you
