関東大震災で行き詰まった仲間の絵を持って渡米(すでに英語も出来ないのに自費で渡米して成功を収め、夏目漱石の三四郎にも出てくる)、しかし、売れるのは木版画ばかりで木版画の価値に目覚め、常に海外市場を意識し、前後焼け残った吉田の洋館には進駐軍が集まったと言う。黒田清輝の白馬会との戦いも、新版画の道を切り拓いたことも、本気の登山で描く山から世界を画材にし日本の様々な風景も収めた活動は、観て歩くうちに感動で少し泣けてきた。寧ろ、海外で知られていたHIROSHI YOSHIDA。面白い。

There were Japanese prints loved by all over the world. It was a woodcut by Yoshida Hiroshi, who opened up a new frontier as a printmaker while also having the basics of a Western-style painter. In this exhibition, on the 70th anniversary of Yoshida\'s death, the entirety of his woodcuts, the major accomplishment in the latter half of his career, are presented.
