Situation in Ukraine
It's been 679 days since Russia invaded Kyiv,
so let's start with general matters.

According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,
Russian losses were
680 soldiers
No tanks
7 armored combat vehicles
15 artillery guns
3 air defense systems
36 drones
73 cruise missiles
40 other vehicles.

The latest information is that on January 2,
Russia launched a missile attack over Ukraine,
firing 10 Kh47M2 Kinjar hypersonic missiles and shooting down all 10.

Across the entire front,
there were 64 reports of ground fire in one day.

And the ratio of the number of losses of Ukrainian equipment to Russian losses,
which can be visually confirmed,
is 1 to 3.3 compared to the number of losses on the Ukrainian side.

Russian losses are dominated by artillery,
armored fighting vehicles and tanks,
and artillery is also prominent in the losses on the Ukrainian side.

Here is a short news report on the situation in Ukraine.
You can also use YouTube's chapter function to watch the necessary parts.

Defense Express has published its top 5 best weapons,
vehicles and equipment of the year 2023,
and one of them has to do with the war in Ukraine.

The rankings were chosen in five categories: most anticipated weapons,
most surprisingly successful weapons,
most effective weapons,
most scarce weapons,
and most expensive weapons.

Four of them are relevant to Ukraine and are presented in that order.

First,
the F-16 multirole fighter,
the most eagerly awaited weapon of all,
It has taken six months since the fighter coalition was formed last July,
but the first six of 19 planes from Denmark should arrive in Ukraine between the end of the year and the beginning of the new year,
and 18 of the 42 planes from the Netherlands will be delivered soon.

He noted that the fighters are not a panacea and will not be enough to defeat the Russian military,
but they will certainly play a key role this year.

Next is the Gepalt anti-aircraft tank,
a weapon that has had the most surprising success,
proving to be an effective and inexpensive way to shoot down the Shahed suicide drone.

The Gepalt,
with two 35mm anti-aircraft guns on a Leopard 1 chassis,
was introduced exactly 50 years ago,
and although it has a short range of 3.5 km and is equipped with a radar that makes it easy to search,
its mobility and shooting accuracy make it ready to deploy and operate wherever it is needed,
and it is capable of multiple bursts,
it was very successful because it was able to shoot down the Shahed in a few attacks.

In addition,
FPV drones,
nominated as the most effective weapon,
Initially,
RPG7 anti-tank missiles were taped to civilian quadcopters,
which could be piloted and rammed into the enemy,
from reconnaissance to attack,
for $500 per unit.
The quadcopter was hailed as a revolution in warfare because it could be easily operated by infantrymen and could attack enemies out of sight or in the shadows from any direction.

Finally,
in the rarest category of weapons,
the German Taurus cruise missile is mentioned.

It is estimated that only 150 of them exist in Germany,
and the resumption of production has been unsuccessful due to many challenges.

For comparison,
the most expensive weapon category is the B21 Raider,
the 6th generation U.S. bomber,
which Defense Express estimates costs between $600 million and $800 million per aircraft.

Now,
here is the war situation in each region.
I will tell you where the war situation is changing.

Northeast,
toward Luhansk Oblast
Eastern Bakhmut region

We will report on the war situation on the Svatove-Kreminna line from Halkiu and Kupyansk,
and from the Sibersk area to Bakhmut.
In this area the Russians attacked seven times.

Svatove-Kreminna Line

We recently reported that there has been an active Russian military offensive in Makiiuka in recent days,
According to the found video,
Russian forces launched an attack from Proshchanka in the direction of Makiiuka,
and Ukrainian forces repelled the Russians with drone strikes and artillery fire at the location on the battle map.

The video shows the Ukrainian side,
which,
according to YouTube's rules,
selects the quiet parts of the video,
monitoring the fleeing Russian infantry after destroying a tank at the location shown on the battle map.

We have updated the battle map with the disputed area near the battle map and the Russian occupied area to the east of the disputed area.

The size of the occupied area is about 0.8 square kilometers.

Around Sibersk

Although unconfirmed due to lack of video footage,
Russian forces are attacking from the northeast and south in an attempt to encircle Veselay.

Veselay is currently defended by Ukrainian forces,
but Veselay is located south of the Shkaprotova River and has limited escape routes.

We have updated the battle map to include this area as contested territory.

Eastern Bakhmut Area

This section reports on the war situation in the Bakhmut area.

The Russians have made about 10 attacks in this area.

Now,
in Bohdanivka,
where we reported fighting yesterday,
the Russian troops have been repulsed,
according to the video with location data.

The video shows the commander of the 93rd mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian army reporting and observing the Russian positions on the battle map after the repulse.

The 93rd Mechanized Brigade was originally the unit defending Klishchiivka,
but it seems that it was also partially deployed in this area at short notice.

There is no change in the battle map.

Otherwise,
the Russian attack was repulsed by the Ukrainian forces,
and there is no change in the battle map.

Southeast Donetsk region

The weather in Avdiivka is sunny and rainy.
The minimum temperature is 0 degrees Celsius,
the maximum is 6 degrees Celsius.
Today's weather forecast is cloudy and rainy.

Below is an update on the situation in the areas of Avdiivka,
Marinka and Vuhledar.

Avdiivka area

Russian troops have made 23 attacks in this area,
the same as yesterday,
and Ukrainian troops continue to block their advance.

Recently,
the Russians have reduced the number of attacks on Avdiivka itself,
making only 4 attacks in the area.

Around Krasnohorivka,
the Russians are attacking in all directions,
but slightly differently than in the past,
as reports indicate that they have redirected their attacks northwest towards Ochertine and Berdych.

Second.
East of Kamianka,
we have received video footage of the Russian military using new drone alarms.

The video we show is from the Russian side,
where the person in the passenger seat has his window open and runs away from the drone while checking the hand-held drone alarm.

In the city of Donetsk,
Ukrainian troops destroyed a Tornado II,
a modern Russian armored truck,
a Buk air defense system and two transport trucks,
in addition to destroying a Tornado II,
a modern Russian armored truck and two transport trucks in an artillery and drone attack,
The Ukrainian military shelling killed four people,
including a senior official of the Russian occupation authorities and several accompanying Russian journalists,
and wounded 13 others during a dinner party at the Donbass Palace Hotel to welcome dignitaries from Moscow.

There was no information about the situation in the Marinka area.

South,
Zaporizhia province.

In this area,
Russian troops were involved in three ground battles near Robotyne,
There is also information that Russian troops heavily shelled Ukrainian positions west of Nestelianka,
There was no change in the war situation.

Rear areas
There are reports of explosions in Skadovsk,
Sevastopol in Crimea,
and Tokmak,
as well as numerous reports of air raid warnings and heavy explosions in Belgorod,
but it is possible that Ukrainian troops are shelling,
that Russian volunteer soldiers are operating,
and that there have been false flag operations by Russian troops in the past. There have also been false flag operations,
so it is unclear what is going on.

South,
Kherson province.

In Krinky,
Russian forces launched 19 attacks in an attempt to eliminate a bridgehead for Ukrainian forces,
but these attacks were repulsed by Ukrainian forces.

Forbes also analyzed the heavy Russian losses in Krinky as "a modern-day Operation Zhukov.

The article provided an overview of the fighting in Krinky,
noting that Ukrainian forces first jammed Russian drones,
and then Ukrainian drones destroyed Russian howitzers and armored vehicles.
The Ukrainian army also has the advantage in shelling from the other side of the Dnipro River,
and in addition,
the Ukrainian army sprays mines at night,
and the Russian army rams into them every day when night falls.

The situation is like the Zhukov operation 80 years ago,
The Ukrainian army was forced to order the soldiers to "destroy the enemy" based on false information that the mines had been cleared,
and the soldiers in turn were destroyed by mines.

Others

A Japanese man named Yusuke,
whose call sign was "Ronnie," joined the Pyatnashka Brigade of the Donetsk People's Republic Army,
a militia group fighting on the Russian side,
as a volunteer soldier.

That day,
in his New Year's address,
he said,
"I hope the war will end soon.

That's all for today.
Thank you for watching.
