Situation in Ukraine
It has been 772 days since Russia invaded Kyiv.
First,
a general matter.
According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,
the Russian losses were 860 soldiers
15 tanks
73 armored combat vehicles
50 artillery pieces
3 multiple rocket launchers
1 air defense system
30 drones
65 other vehicles.
The entire front reported 65 ground battles in a single day.
And the ratio of the number of losses of Ukrainian equipment to Russian losses,
which can be visually confirmed,
is 1 to 6.7,
compared to the number of losses on the Ukrainian side.
The Russian side has lost a large number of tanks,
military trucks and infantry fighting vehicles and is conducting aggressive offensive operations with vehicles.
On the Ukrainian side,
tanks are slightly more conspicuous,
which confirms that they are focused on operations to block the advance of the Russian army.
This is a short news report about the situation in Ukraine.

1.
Dark clouds have once again gathered over the future of U.S. support for Ukraine.
A Wall Street Journal poll shows former President Trump leading President Biden in six out of seven states,
including Pennsylvania and Nevada,
which are considered battleground states in the United States.
In line with this,
Bloomberg reported that the U.S. House of Representatives vote on the military aid bill involving Ukraine is weeks away due to the time needed for coordination.
The article mentions that Chairman Johnson gave an interview to Fox News,
and it appears that hardliners in the Republican Party have taken a harder line and have not been able to come together,
with some saying that a new aid package should be developed and that it should include content that the Biden administration opposes.
Second.
A regular report from the British Ministry of Defense analyzed the number of Russian military attacks in March,
which was down 9% from February of this year,
indicating a change in strategy.
The report noted that the number of attacks on the hard-hit town of Avdiivka,
which had accounted for one-third of the total,
fell to one-quarter,
and instead there was an increase in attacks on smaller towns,
such as Novomichailivka in southwest Donetsk,
with no significant gains.
3.
Professor Emeritus Itsuro Nakamura of Tsukuba University,
known in Japan as a leading analyst of Russian affairs,
has predicted Russia's next move.
His analysis is sharp: he predicted the Prigozhin uprising last June,
and he predicted last month's attack in Moscow a year in advance,
and he was right.
In making this prediction,
he focused on power struggles within the Kremlin,
such as the attack on the Crocus City Hall,
which he described as "a ploy by the FSB to undermine the Patrushev faction in a factional struggle between FSB Director Portnikov and Secretary Patrushev,
Russia's number two,
over the position of the next Russian prime minister. The FSB's move was a ploy by the FSB to undermine Patrushev's faction in the race to become Russia's next prime minister.
In his latest prediction,
he noted that "President Putin is ready for all-out war with NATO and will use tactical nuclear weapons next month.
The magazine's editor concluded,
"I hope this prediction will come true.
Now,
here is the war situation in each region.
We will focus on the areas where the war situation has changed.
You can follow the changes with the date on the large full-screen display.
Northeast: Luhansk Region
Eastern Bakhmut
This section covers the war situation on the Svatove-Kreminna line,
from the Siversk area to the Bakhmut area.
In this area the Russians attacked once at Tabayivka in the Kupyansk sector,
five times at Terny,
and 14 times in the Bakhmut sector.
Svatove-Kreminna line
Russian troops have resumed their attack towards Terny,
trying to break through Ukrainian positions.
According to the position video,
the Ukrainian troops are quite close to the city,
as armored vehicles are firing at the locations indicated on the map.
We can also see a cloud of dust in the vicinity,
which we believe is Russian artillery fire.
For now,
there is no change in the battle map,
but it is said that the defensive line of the Ukrainian army is becoming increasingly vulnerable,
and the situation cannot be relaxed.
Around Siversk
On the attack axis from Vesere to Vimka,
where we reported yesterday that the Ukrainian forces were retreating and the Russian forces were advancing,
the Russian forces changed the direction of the attack and advanced to the north of Vesere.
This area was defended by the 8th and 10th Mountain Assault Brigades of the Ukrainian Army,
but since the Russian attack has not been active so far,
it is possible that they do not have enough forces to defend the area.
What we are showing you is the Russian side,
and as our accompanying reporters cover the event,
Russian troops are advancing to the location indicated on the map.
The battle map has been updated to show Russian forces advancing south to this location.
Drawing a bit on the map,
it is important to note that this area has slightly undulating terrain of about 100 meters,
and there is no large town until Sibersk,
so if the Russians concentrate their forces,
the Ukrainian army will be forced to retreat significantly.
Around ChasivYar
In Canal,
an outpost of ChasivYar,
we reported in our April 2 video on the bombing of a nature park northeast of the town.
On that day,
Russian forces shelled Canal and advanced eight tanks and infantry fighting vehicles into the forest east of the town to attack.
In response,
the 67th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Army destroyed one tank and two IFVs,
but Russian infantry deployed,
some of which entered the forest and successfully established a base east of the forest.
Then one of the vehicles made a wrong turn and unexpectedly approached very close to the channel,
where the vehicle was finally repulsed.
The image shown is from the Ukrainian side and was taken at 12x speed from a drone.
Only one of the Russian columns of vehicles can be seen driving straight down the branch and into the town of Canal.
The battle map has been updated to show Russian forces occupying up to the forest entrance and the disputed territory at the eastern end of the town of Canal.
2.
In Ivanivske,
the Russians launched a vehicle attack on the city center,
which was repulsed by the Ukrainian forces.
For now,
there is no change in the battle map,
but it is worrying that the Russian offensive is gradually becoming more active and the Ukrainian forces are gradually being repulsed more slowly.
Southeast Donetsk region.
The weather in Avdiivka is cloudy.
The minimum temperature is 5 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is 19 degrees Celsius.
The weather forecast for today is cloudy and sunny.
We will keep you updated on the situation in the areas of Avdiivka,
Marinka and Vuhledar.
Avdiivka area
Russian troops made 15 attacks in this sector.
1.
In Berdych,
the Russians launched an offensive on the northern road,
and the Ukrainians responded with artillery fire,
cluster shells,
and drones,
eventually repulsing them,
but the Russians moved forward between the artillery fire.
What we are showing you is video from the Ukrainian side,
with the Russian troops operating a little further back in the area shown on the map.
It is difficult to see from a distance,
but in the enlarged image you can see a large number of Russian soldiers walking around as if they were taking a walk in a garden,
amidst occasional artillery fire.
The battle map has been updated to show this area as occupied by Russian troops.
2.
There has been no significant Russian military activity in Semenivka,
but it is likely that the Russians are regrouping for their next offensive.
3.
Southeast of Umanske,
the position video shows that the Russians attacked on the plains south of the river,
but visibility was good in that area and they were repulsed with the loss of two tanks and an unknown vehicle at the location indicated on the map.
What we are showing you is from the Ukrainian side and is the T-72 at the location indicated on the map.
We have updated the battle map of this location from the Ukrainian-controlled area as an extension of the disputed area.
Marinka Sector
In this sector,
Russian forces conducted 22 attacks,
mainly on Novomihailivka.
In Novomihailivka,
which is the focal point of the battle map,
the Russian attack was repelled by Ukrainian forces and the battle map remained unchanged,
but Russian armored anti-mine vehicles entered a residential area north of the town,
cleared mines,
and withdrew.
The Ukrainian side is shown here,
with the vehicle advancing while clearing mines.
The vehicle was damaged and disabled,
and a recovery vehicle was used to retrieve the mines.
The vehicle was not repulsed and returned to the Russian occupied area.
The battle map is unchanged.
Rostovnadnou area
An oil tank in Rostovnadnou burns after a fire of unknown origin.
Southern Zaporizhia province
South,
Kherson province.
In this area,
small-scale battles continued in Staromaiorsk and Robotyne,
and seven Russian attacks were launched in Krinky,
but the Ukrainian army repulsed all of them,
leaving no change in the battle map.
Other.
In an interview with the media,
Rep. McCaul,
Republican Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee,
said,
"Unfortunately,
Russian propaganda has entered the United States,
and I think it has infected a significant portion of our party's base of support.
The U.S. House of Representatives will reconvene on January 9,
but as we reported at the beginning of this newsletter,
there will be more twists and turns before the vote is taken.
That's all for today.
Thank you for watching.
