Situation in Ukraine
It has been 695 days since Russia invaded Kyiv.
First,
general things.
According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,
Russian losses were
920 soldiers
20 tanks
35 armored combat vehicles
19 artillery pieces
1 air defense system
4 drones
1 cruise missile
41 other vehicles.
In total,
114 ground battles were reported along the entire front.
And the ratio of the number of visually confirmed losses of Ukrainian equipment to Russian losses is 1 to 1.9,
the same as yesterday,
compared to the number of losses on the Ukrainian side.
Losses on the Russian side were mostly infantry fighting vehicles,
tanks and armored fighting vehicles,
with one Mi8 helicopter recorded as being caught and damaged by an electrical wire.
Losses on the Ukrainian side show no particular trend.
Here is a short news report on the situation in Ukraine.
You can also use YouTube's chapter feature to watch it if you wish.
1.
After meeting with Congressional officials regarding support for Ukraine and strengthening the Mexican border,
President Biden said,
"A majority of members of Congress support support for Ukraine,
but a minority is delaying it.
The question is whether the minority will continue to delay,
and if they do,
it will be a disaster."
Meanwhile,
Chairman Johnson,
whose stalling is said to be demanding clear goals for the war in Ukraine and changes in the Biden administration's border policy,
citing the war in Afghanistan,
is likely to continue negotiating for some time.
Second.
Major Hetman of the Ukrainian military said,
"The Russian army can deliver 70 to 75 tanks to the front every month.
On the other hand,
the Ukrainian army destroys hundreds of tanks every month,
and the major said,
"The Russian army takes good care of its equipment and does not concentrate it in one place.
Russia is doing everything it can to show some kind of victory before the presidential elections in March,
" he said.
We picked up and reported on the tanks because of a viewer's comment.
Third.
According to the IEA's Oil Market Report,
Russian oil exports rose by 500,
000 barrels per day in December to 7.8 million barrels per day,
while revenues fell to their lowest level in six months.
The reason for this was Western sanctions on tankers and weak demand for Russian oil,
which forced the expansion of discounts,
said Bloomberg,
noting that Russia's financial resources are thinning ahead of the war in Ukraine and the March presidential election.
Fourth.
A periodic report by the British Ministry of Defense notes that Russia is increasing military spending at the expense of many sectors,
which is likely to overheat the economy and negatively impact the Russian economy.
Although the Russian government has stated that inflation is 7.5%,
it is clear that it is much higher,
with Russia's policy rate at 16% and a Johns Hopkins University study showing Russian inflation at 29%,
four times the official statistics.
The report noted that the outlook for the Russian economy could be negatively affected by inflation,
as well as increased imports and the depreciation of the ruble,
The Russian economy is trying to hold on until the presidential elections in March,
but after that it is likely to have more problems than it does now.
Now let me show you the war situation in each region.
I will report on the areas where the war situation is changing.
Northeast: Luhansk region
Eastern part,
towards Bakhmut
We will report on the war situation on the Svatove-Kreminna line from Halkiu and Kupyansk,
and from the Sibersk area to Bakhmut.
Svatove-Kreminna line from Kupyansk
In this sector,
the Russians attacked six times at Shinkivka and 13 times at Makiivka,
Terny and Yampolivka,
but were repulsed by the Ukrainian army.
Ukrainian military spokesman Ficho reported that "the number of drone attacks by the enemy increased from 30 to 54,
" suggesting that the Russians may be preparing for a ground war to take Kupyansk.
Sibersk and environs
Russian forces carried out five strikes in this area.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it had "taken control of Veseret,
" and various media outlets,
including Reuters,
have reported this,
but so far there has been no confirmation,
and it is possible that this is propaganda in anticipation of the Russian presidential election.
However,
there are unconfirmed reports that Russian troops have occupied the southeastern half of Veseret,
We will update the battleground map as soon as we have confirmation,
but for now there is no change to the battleground map.
Around Bakhmut
The Russians have launched eight attacks in this sector.
The Institute of War reported the advance of Russian troops in Bohdanivka,
but the battle map remained unchanged,
as the events were already in Russian-occupied territory when we checked the video with location information.
South-east Donetsk region.
The weather in Avdiivka is cloudy.
The minimum temperature is -6 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is -1 degrees Celsius.
Today's weather forecast is for rain.
The cold weather is decreasing and temperatures near 0 degrees Celsius are expected to continue for a while.
Here is an update on the situation in Avdiivka,
Marinka and Vuhledar.
Avdiivka area
The Russians launched 13 attacks in the Avdiivka area and 14 attacks on Pervomaiske and Neveleske.
Ukrainian military commander Tarnavsky said,
"The enemy actively used armored vehicles to accelerate infantry attacks,
losing 41 vehicles in the past three days.
Spokesman Stupun described a typical Russian military attack,
saying,
"We advance with one or two tanks,
several armored personnel carriers and MTLB armored fighting vehicles,
and then quickly withdraw after transporting the infantry.
Then our forces will attack.
1.
In Stepove,
according to the video with location,
the Ukrainian army again deployed Bradley infantry fighting vehicles to sweep the Russian positions.
What we are showing you is the Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle.
The Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle,
with its high mobility and machine guns that can repel everything from clearing positions to Russian tanks,
seems to be just right for the job.
The battle map remains unchanged.
2.
Meanwhile,
at Neveleske,
the Russians made a slight advance.
Although the Russians have been attacking the small settlement east of Neveleske with artillery and tank fire for the past few days,
According to the located video,
the Russians have occupied the Ukrainian positions with infantry advancing at the location shown on the battle map.
What I am showing you is the footage from the Russian side,
The Russian infantrymen can be seen entering the Ukrainian positions and checking inside.
This area was retaken by Ukrainian forces on October 2,
but the battle map has been updated to show that Russian forces have retaken the area.
The area is approximately 1 square kilometer.
Marinka area
The Russians launched 10 attacks on Krasnohorivka,
Heolyivka,
Marinka,
and Novomihailivka,
which are located north of Marinka,
but the Ukrainian army defended this area,
leaving the battle map unchanged.
South,
Zaporizhia province.
The Russians made one or two attacks in this sector and were repulsed by Ukrainian forces.
First.
In Stalomaiorsk,
which we have reported on from time to time,
the Russians attacked the location shown on the battle map,
but were repulsed by Ukrainian drones.
The image shown is of the Ukrainian Army's Pegasus Company operating at the location shown on the battle map,
which is likely a newly deployed unit.
The battle map in Staromaiorsk has not changed for over two months.
2.
Also south of Robotyne,
Russian paratroopers launched an attack on Robotyne,
but were repulsed when they stepped on mines laid by Ukrainian troops.
What I am showing you is from the Ukrainian side and is the view of the location on the battle map.
This location was reoccupied by the Russians last month,
but we have updated the battle map to include the disputed area.
Rear Area
1.
The Ukrainian military has conducted a successful drone strike on President Vladimir Putin's hometown of St.
Petersburg.
Ukrainian Minister of Strategic Industry Kamuyshin announced in Davos that "last night we hit our target,
the drone we used for the attack flew 1,
250 km."
The target is believed to be an oil terminal,
but some reports indicate that the explosion took place very close to the house where President Putin was born,
so the results will be revealed in the coming days.
2.
Ukraine's main intelligence agency,
GUR,
also reported drone strikes on oil facilities in Leningrad and Moscow,
and a fire near an oil tank in Leningrad.
Third.
Ateş,
a partisan organization operating in Crimea,
reported the sinking of a Russian Tarantul anti-submarine patrol boat in Sevastopol.
The Tarantul was developed on the basis of the Osa-class missile boat,
the original Osa-class being a corvette 37.5 meters long and 7.6 meters wide with a displacement of 172 tons,
The missile launchers have been removed from this Osa and the ship will be equipped with torpedo tubes and detonation rails.
The location is a pier at the far end of Sevastopol Bay,
in the Crimean Gulf,
where the ship was attacked and sunk by air and water drones.
South,
Kherson Province.
The Russians attacked Krinky six times,
although the Ukrainians maintained their bridgehead and the battle map remained unchanged,
There are reports of Russian electronic warfare vehicles being destroyed by HIMARS in Novakahovka.
That's all for today.
Thank you for watching.
