The situation in Ukraine
It has been 733 days since Russia invaded Kyiv.
First some general things.
According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,
the loss of Russian troops was
880 soldiers
13 tanks
37 armored combat vehicles
12 artillery pieces
1 multiple rocket launcher
2 air defense systems
26 drones
3 cruise missiles
28 other vehicles.
And the ratio of the number of Ukrainian military equipment losses to Russian losses,
which can be visually confirmed,
is 1 to 1.7,
compared to the losses on the Ukrainian side.
The Russian side has more infantry fighting vehicles and is sending soldiers to the front lines to attack in the offensive for the presidential elections.
The recent low loss of tanks is believed to be due to the depletion of tanks in the Russian army.
The losses on the Ukrainian side are remarkable for tanks and artillery.
Here is a short news report on the situation in Ukraine.
You can also use YouTube's chapter feature to watch where you need to.
1.
where Defense Express shares an analysis of several OSINT reports that tell us that Russian tanks are being depleted.
Since around February,
Russian tanks have been replaced by older tanks like the T64 and T55,
and the T80 in particular is already depleted.
The numbers on the Russian tanks indicate the approximate age of the tanks,
with the T55 being a tank from around 1955 and the T80 being a tank from around 1980.
For example,
in the Russian 1st Tank Army deployed in the Kreminna area,
reports of T80U losses have been extremely low,
and it is believed to be nearly depleted.
It has also been confirmed that the Russians have begun to use the T62 in the battle of Avdiivka and the ongoing ground battle at Robotyne.
The recent decline in the Russian offensive in the Kreminna area,
including Terny,
may be due in part to the depletion of tanks.
In addition,
while there are currently 170 T80UDs in inventory,
they cannot be used in actual combat due to the inability to supply engines and are only used for parts.
The T64,
T55,
and a small number of Marine-spec T80BV and T80BVM are currently being offered to the 1st Tank Army,
and it appears that the Marine Corps has begun fielding the T55 as well.
In addition,
there are believed to be several hundred T72s in inventory,
but based on the number of tanks lost,
our analysis suggests that the bottom is in sight.
Older tanks have incomparably lower performance,
resulting in reduced offensive capabilities.
Currently,
Russia is attempting to seize Ukrainian towns and villages with full force,
even if it must be done in the run-up to Putin's presidential election,
but Defense Express concludes that after the election,
the cost of these political propaganda efforts may be a significant reduction in the offensive capabilities of the Russian military.
Second.
President Zelensky took the stage at the "Ukraine 2024 Forum" on April 25 and stated that the two-year war has resulted in "180,000 Russian military casualties,
with a total of 500,000 dead and wounded,
and 31,000 Ukrainian military casualties."
Zelensky added,
"Not 300,000 or 150,000,
as Putin and his gang of liars claim," stressing,
"But each one is a great loss for us.
Thus,
the ratio of deaths is about one to six.
Third.
The head of Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate,
Budanov,
posted a video message on a social networking site saying that "civilians were killed on the Crimean bridge,
The video shows the head of Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate posting a video message on social networking sites advising "civilians not to cross the Crimean Bridge."
The video begins with an appearance by Budanov,
with the Crimean Bridge in the background,
and then recounts the occupation of Crimea 10 years ago and reviews the operation to date,
He said: "The enemy will expect new surprises this year.
He warned civilians against using the so-called Crimean bridge,
saying,
"We do not encourage the use of the so-called Crimean bridge by civilians.
Now,
here is the war situation in different regions.
I will tell you where the war situation has changed.
Northeastern Luhansk region
Eastern part,
towards Bakhmut
We will report on the war situation from Halkiu and Kupyansk to the Svatove-Kreminna line,
and from the Siversk area to the Bakhmut area.
In this area the Russians attacked three times in Terny and 13 times in the Bakhmut area.
Bakhmut area
From Bohdanivka to Ivanivske both sides attacked and advanced.
The Russians organized a force of 100 to 200 men in about 10 IFVs and attacked.
The Ukrainian forces responded and the Russians were repulsed with a loss of 60% of their vehicles and 50% of their men,
The Russians prepared the next wave of assault units and launched wave after wave of attacks,
wearing down the Ukrainian forces.
1.
According to the position video,
after the Russians launched several rockets into Ivanivske,
the Russians attacked and won a position battle in the mapped forest north of Ivanivske.
Shown here is Russian video footage of Russian troops in action around a Ukrainian military trench.
This forest was retaken by Ukrainian forces last week,
and we have updated the battle map to show part of the retaken area as Russian-occupied territory.
Second.
On the contrary,
the Ukrainian army advanced from Ivanivske in the direction of Kromove.
This is evidenced by the fact that the Russians fired hot-air bombs on the mapped area and conducted drone strikes on the large warehouses shown on the map.
The battle map has been updated to show that Ukrainian forces have retaken this location from Russian occupation.
The area is approximately 0.6 square kilometers.
3.
Along the railroad north of Klishchiivka,
according to the found video,
Russian troops stormed the Ukrainian positions and the Ukrainian soldiers surrendered and were taken as prisoners of war.
This one was treated as a prisoner of war according to procedure.
What we are showing you is a view of the location indicated on the map.
We have updated the battle map to show this location as occupied by the Russians from the disputed territory.
Otherwise,
the Russian attack was repelled by the Ukrainian forces,
and the battle map remains unchanged.
Southeastern Donetsk region
The weather in Avdiivka is cloudy with occasional showers.
The minimum temperature is -4 degrees Celsius and the maximum is 4 degrees Celsius.
Today's weather forecast calls for partly cloudy skies.
Below is an update on the situation in the areas of Avdiivka,
Marinka and Vuhledar.
Avdiivka
Russian troops have attacked this area 14 times.
It is not clear where the Ukrainian army is considering as a line of defense,
but it seems that the Ukrainian army is defending Severne and Stepove,
while Lastochkine is retreating and preparing a front line.
The Russian military attacks are also relatively weak,
with the Ukrainian drones striking from Avdiivka in the direction of Tonenke,
but otherwise the Russians do not seem to be launching any significant attacks.
1.
In yesterday's video,
we reported that Ukrainian forces had taken positions west of Lastochkine and were withdrawing,
but the Russians have been bombing the area shown on the map and the Ukrainian forces have been withdrawing further west.
What we are showing you is the Russian side,
with Ukrainian troops retreating on foot along O0542 north of Rastochkine.
The Russians have advanced accordingly,
and we have updated the battle map of the area from disputed to Russian-occupied territory.
2.
Meanwhile,
in Severne,
there seems to be a ground battle for a settlement,
but no information is available and no changes have been made to the battle map yet.
In Pervomaiske and Neveleske,
the Russian attack was repelled by Ukrainian forces,
and there was no information that would affect the battle map.
Marinka sector
In this sector the Russians attacked Novomihailivka 39 times,
aggressively trying to break through the Ukrainian positions,
but there was no change in the battle map.
However,
the number of attacks did not increase,
perhaps because of the decrease in the number of airstrikes due to the downing of the A50,
or perhaps because the Russians are tired of being on the offensive.
Southern Zaporizhia Province
In this area the Russians attacked once at Zolotaniva and five times at Robotyne.
Verkhanovosylka area
In Priutne,
according to the video with location information,
Ukrainian troops attacked and advanced.
Russian troops are shelling the area shown on the map,
which confirms that Ukrainian troops have advanced in this area.
The video shown here is from the Russian side and shows the border forest shown on the map.
The battle map has been updated to show that the Ukrainian army has retaken the Russian-occupied area.
Robotyne Area
1.
In yesterday's video we reported that Russian troops entered the town of Robotyne and paratroopers were active near the post office,
The Ukrainian army then counterattacked and this Russian unit was completely annihilated.
What we are showing you is the Ukrainian side of the story,
and we are also using footage released by the Russian side to show what happened to the troops who broke through the front lines and entered Robotyne.
Therefore,
we have updated the battle map,
as the Ukrainian troops have retaken this area from the disputed territory.
2.
There are several reports about the southern part of the area,
with some reporting that Russian troops have taken it,
and others that Ukrainian troops have completely pushed Russian troops out of the city center.
One of the videos with location information is of a Ukrainian military drone destroying a Russian armored vehicle in the southwest corner of the town of Robotyne.
We will keep you updated on this case as more information becomes available.
Southern Kherson Province
In this area,
the Russians made two attacks on Krinky,
but the Ukrainian forces repelled them,
leaving the battle map unchanged.
That's all for today.
Thank you for watching.
