Situation in Ukraine
It has been 743 days since Russia invaded Kyiv.
First,
general things.
According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,
the Russian military losses are
1160 soldiers
17 tanks
51 armored combat vehicles
42 cannons
1 multiple rocket launcher
42 drones
1 cruise missile
58 other vehicles.
The Russians are making slight advances while suffering very heavy casualties.
There were 86 reports of ground fighting in a single day across the entire front.
And the ratio of the number of losses of Ukrainian equipment to Russian losses that can be visually confirmed is 1 to 2.8 compared to the losses on the Ukrainian side.
The Russian losses are dominated by artillery,
tanks,
IFVs and civilian trucks,
while the Ukrainian losses are dominated by military trucks,
including the HIMARS and M1A1 Abrams tanks we reported on yesterday.
Here is a brief news update on the situation in Ukraine.
You can also use YouTube's chapter feature to watch where you need to.
1.
Indians in Russian military uniforms call for help.
According to local Russian media,
seven Indians applied through a travel agency to visit Russia to celebrate the New Year.
The local guide suggested that they also visit Belarus,
and the Indian tourists thought it would be interesting,
so they did as suggested and visited Belarus,
only to be detained by Belarusian authorities for lack of visas and deported back to Russia,
where they were arrested.
During interrogation,
he signed a document in Russian that he did not understand,
which was apparently a document to volunteer for the Russian army,
and the tourist was then taken to the Russian army,
where he underwent 15 days of military training and is now being held until he is sent to the front lines in Ukraine.
This is apparently not the first time this has happened,
and the Indian government announced last month that it was working to bring home Indian nationals involved in the war from Russia.
As you know,
the Russians are aggressively using frontal assault tactics on unobstructed flat terrain and have reportedly already killed 180,000 people in two years of war.
Second.
According to an Israel Defense Forces officer,
General Repin,
who analyzed pictures of Russian military losses,
the Russian army was able to use a number of tactics to destroy the enemy's armor,
For example,
he noted the use of many non-standard vehicles,
such as the T62,
which lacks the armor normally present,
and the BTR80 armored fighting vehicle before it was upgraded.
General Repin analyzed that "the Russians are trying to continue the attack with whatever they have,
regardless of the type of vehicle," suggesting that the Russians are deploying their forces in a haphazard manner.
In addition,
according to military expert Kovalenko,
the Russian military has lost less than half of its total number of tanks and other armored vehicles,
and continues to lose five times as many vehicles as are produced each day,
indicating that there is a situation where the number of available armored vehicles is decreasing.
Third.
Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis was on his way to Odessa to meet with President Zelenski when he was attacked by Russian forces and a missile landed 150 meters from the convoy carrying the Prime Minister.
A Greek ERT reporter accompanying the Prime Minister said that an air raid alarm had gone off during the trip and that the missile landed after an air defense operation was underway,
The Greek ERT then announced that "five civilians were killed in the attack,
but that the safety and duties of the Prime Minister were not in question.
Now,
here is the status of the war in each region.
I will tell you where there are changes in the war situation.
You can follow the changes in the war situation in detail on the large full-screen display.
Northeast: Luhansk region
Eastern part,
towards Bakhmut
This section reports on the war situation on the Svatove-Kreminna line from Halkiu and Kupyansk,
and from the Siversk area to the Bakhmut area.
In this area the Russians attacked six times near Terny and Verkhonokamyanske and twice in the direction of Bakhmut.
Bakhmut Area
1.
There is no information from the Ukrainian side,
but it seems that Ukrainian troops are conducting a counterattack in Ivanivske.
According to the video with location information,
the Ukrainian military conducted a drone attack on the mapped area,
and after checking the rear movement,
they entered the city center of Ivanivske and advanced to Plovlok Street.
The presence of Ukrainian troops at this location can be confirmed by the fact that Russian troops are attacking this location with several rockets.
The image shown is from the Russian side,
taken from a drone,
with the main road,
T0504,
in the background.
The Ukrainian army has its 5th assault brigade in this area,
and the Russian army has its 11th airborne brigade.
We have updated the battle map of this location from Russian-occupied to disputed territory.
Otherwise,
the Russian attack was repelled by the Ukrainian forces,
and no other information affecting the battle map was available.
South-east Donetsk region.
The weather in Avdiivka was cloudy.
The minimum temperature is 0 degrees Celsius and the maximum is 5 degrees Celsius.
Today's weather is forecast to be cloudy with occasional showers.
Below is an update on the situation in Avdiivka,
Marinka and Vuhledar.
Avdiivka
In this area the Russians have made 23 attacks,
with heavy fighting especially in Berdych,
Orlivka,
and Tonenke.
1.
On the attack axis in Stepove-Verdici,
Both sides attacked and caused damage.
The Russians conducted a vehicle and infantry attack,
destroying or abandoning only two visible BTR80 armored fighting vehicles,
one T72 and one T80 tank.
The Ukrainians also launched an offensive on the northern road to Stepove,
digging trenches and positions at the locations shown on the map.
The Ukrainians used Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and M1A1 Abrams in a clearing operation,
which were damaged and abandoned by the Russian counterattack.
Second.
On the southern axis of the attack,
the Russians were repelled by Ukrainian drones as they approached the entrance to the town shown on the map.
Third.
The Russians also attacked with tanks south of Berdych,
but this too was discovered by the Ukrainians and the Russians were repulsed with losses.
So far there is no change in the battle map.
Fourth.
In Orlivka,
the Russians advanced to attack the northern side of the city and were repulsed by numerous drone attacks from three brigades of the Ukrainian army as they approached the eastern side of the city.
The image shown here is from the 3rd Assault Brigade and is part of the scene shown on the map.
This series of attacks neutralized 17 Russian soldiers.
5th.
South of Tonenke,
the Russians launched 25 rocket attacks,
counted from the center of the town to the west,
to control Ukrainian troop movements.
The battle map has not changed,
but a ground attack may be imminent.
No other significant Russian attacks were reported on the Pervomaiske and Neveleske attack axis,
and the battle map remained unchanged.
Marinka Sector
In this sector the Russians made 39 attacks,
trying to break through the Ukrainian defensive line.
1.
Russian troops approach Heoryivka.
According to video footage with location information,
the Russians shelled the urban area of Heoryivka,
bombed Ukrainian positions further south to disable them,
and then conducted a ground attack on the attack axis south of the reservoir.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the first assault force has reached the outskirts of the town.
We will bring you more information as it becomes available.
The battle map has been updated to include the contested area east of Heorijka.
Second.
There is some disturbing information coming out of Novomihailivka.
It appears that the Russians are attacking south of the town in order to set the stage for a general assault.
The Russians initially launched a vehicle attack at the location shown on the map,
but this attack was repelled by Ukrainian forces.
The following is a view of the Russian convoy at the location shown on the map.
You can see that the first tank in the convoy has been destroyed,
leaving the rest of the vehicles stranded.
However,
the Russians have used the destroyed vehicles to form an improvised position and regain their position,
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the Russians have attacked along the road shown on the map and are now engaged in a ground battle just before the bridge into the city.
If the Russians attack from the east,
the Ukrainian army can invite the Russians to attack while retreating in an urban battle and inflict damage on the enemy forces,
but if they attack from the south,
a reservoir will prevent the Ukrainian army from retreating and the defense will be complicated by the need to establish a position from which to retreat.
For now,
no changes have been made to the war situation map.
There have been no changes to the battle map for now.
South,
Zaporizhia Province.
In this sector the Russians made five attacks on Verbove and Robotyne.
1.
In Verbove and the highlands west of Verbove,
the Russians may have launched an offensive and advanced.
First,
west of Velbove,
the location-based video shows that Ukrainian troops attacked the mapped area and took Russian positions.
What we are showing you is from the Ukrainian side and shows the location shown on the map.
This location was recaptured by Ukrainian forces on or around August 30th of last year,
and since we now know that Russian forces have advanced this far,
we have updated the battle map from the Ukrainian recaptured area to the Russian occupied and contested area up to this point.
2.
Also on the high ground called the 166th Highland,
Russian troops attacked from the high ground to the west,
and Ukrainian troops responded with drones.
We have updated the battle map to show this location as occupied by Russian forces from disputed territory.
Drawing a bit on the map,
it is important to note that if the Russian advance continues in this area,
two locations,
the Ukrainian positions on the outskirts of Verbove and Robotyne,
may be encircled.
Rear areas
There were explosions in Berzhansk and Kursk during the day,
with a drone strike in Kursk hitting Russia's largest iron ore producing Mikhailovsky mine,
an explosion at an iron ore processing plant,
and an oil tank also catching fire.
South,
Kherson province.
In this sector,
the Russians attacked Krinky three times,
but the attacks were unsuccessful and the battle map remained unchanged.
That's all for today.
Thank you for watching.
