また当時AIR MAXで採用されていたビジブルエア搭載モデルでもある。

秘話
当時マイケルジョーダンはアディダスが大好きだったそうです。
それに加え、ジョーダン1、ジョーダン2のデザインがジョーダンのお気に召さなかったようで、当時ジョーダンはナイキとの契約をやめようとしていました。
そんな時にジョーダンはナイキの本社に呼ばれます。そこにはティンカーハットフィールド氏とナイキの社長がいて、「あなたが来シーズン履くシューズはこれです。」と一足のシューズを手渡しました。そう、その一足こそがジョーダン3で、マイケルジョーダンはジョーダン3を一目惚れしたそうです。
そしてナイキは無事にマイケルジョーダンとの契約を続行することが決まりました。

皆さん、ダンクコンテストはご存知だろうか？
NBAにもオールスターゲームがあり、二日に渡って行われるのだが、その1日目にダンクコンテストが行われる。誰が、もっとも美しく、迫力のあるダンクができるかを競うゲームだ。
得点は審査員が5人いて、持ち点1人10点の計50点で審査されます。
他にも3ポイントシュートの精度や、パスの精度を競うゲームも1日目に前夜祭的な感じで行われています。
1988年のダンクコンテストでの出来事だ。
その日マイケルジョーダンはドミニク・ウィルキンズという選手とダンクコンテストで互いに一歩も譲らない見事なダンクを披露していた。
最後の一回、ドミニク・ウィルキンズは見事な迫力のあるダンクを決め、マイケルジョーダンは４９点以上を取らないと負けてしまうところまで追い込まれてしまいました。
すると追い込まれたマイケルジョーダンは、ゴールのある反対のコートまで助走をとり、走り始めました。
大きく助走をとったマイケルは、なんとフリースローラインからジャンプしたのです。
マイケルは、そのまま歩くように空中をジャンプし、そのままダンクして見せたのだ！！
会場は大盛り上がり。得点はもちろん50点満点。
見事にダンクコンテストで逆転優勝してみせたのだ。
そんな伝説的なダンク記録を打ち出した時に履いていたシューズが、そう。”ジョーダン3”なのだ。
