数十人の退役将校と提督が、ロイド・オースティン国防長官とマーク・ミリー統合参謀本部議長に、アフガニスタンからの米軍撤退の失敗に関連した「怠慢」を非難し、辞任を求めた。

Flag Officers 4 America」というグループのメンバーを名乗る署名者たちは、オースティン氏とミレー氏が「可能な限り強い言葉でこの危険な撤退に反対するよう勧告すべきだった」と主張しています。もし彼らが早急な撤退を阻止するために権限内であらゆることをしなかったのであれば、彼らは辞任すべきである」と主張しています。

逆に、オースティン氏とミレイ氏がバイデン大統領の撤退命令と徹底的に戦ったのであれば、やはり「良心の問題として、そして公的な声明として」辞任すべきだと付け加えている。

この書簡には、ロナルド・レーガン大統領の下で元国家安全保障顧問を務めたジョン・ポインデクスター退役海軍少将、元海軍少将で長年ホワイトハウスの医師を務めたロニー・ジャクソン下院議員（テキサス州選出）、来年のニューハンプシャー州上院議員候補であるドナルド・ボルドック退役陸軍准将など、月曜日の夜の時点で87名の署名者がいます。

書簡では、オースティン氏とミレイ氏に対し、「リーダーシップ、トレーニング、モラル」を理由に辞任するよう求め、「PC『wokeness』関連のトレーニングを強制的に強調しているが、これは極めて分裂的であり、部隊の結束、即応性、戦争遂行能力に有害である」と非難しています。

「我が国の軍隊は、我が国の戦争を戦い、勝利するために存在しており、そのことが軍のトップリーダーの唯一の関心事でなければならない」と結論づけています。

Flag Officers 4 America」は、5月にもFBIや最高裁が「選挙の不正」を無視していると非難し、バイデン氏の精神的・肉体的な状態を疑う公開書簡を発表し、一定の評価を得ています。

当時、このグループは、元統合参謀本部議長のマイク・マレン退役提督から、この書簡は "軍を傷つけ、ひいては国を傷つけるものだ "とポリティコに語って批判されていた。

米国政府は月曜日、カブールのハミド・カルザイ国際空港での避難作戦が完了したと発表したが、数百人の米国市民と数千人のアフガンの同盟者がタリバンの支配地域に取り残されていることを認めざるを得なかった。

Ex-military officers call for Austin, Milley to resign over Afghanistan debacle

Dozens of retired generals and admirals have called on Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley to step down, accusing them of “negligence” in connection with the disastrous US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The signatories, who claim membership in a group called “Flag Officers 4 America,” claim Austin and Milley “should have recommended against this dangerous withdrawal in the strongest possible terms. If they did not do everything within their authority to stop the hasty withdrawal, they should resign.”

Conversely, the letter adds, if Austin and Milley fought President Biden’s pullout order tooth and nail, they still should resign “as a matter of conscience and public statement.”

The letter had 87 signatories as of Monday night, including retired Navy Rear Adm. John Poindexter, a former national security adviser under President Ronald Reagan; Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), a former Navy rear admiral and longtime white House physician; and retired Army Brigadier Gen. Donald Bolduc, a Republican candidate to represent New Hampshire in the US Senate next year.

The letter also calls on Austin and Milley to resign for reasons of “leadership, training, and morale” and accuses them of “placing mandatory emphasis on PC ‘wokeness’ related training which is extremely divisive and harmful to unit cohesion, readiness, and war fighting capability.

“Our military exists to fight and win our Nation’s wars and that must be the sole focus of our top military leaders,” it concludes.

Flag Officers 4 America achieved a degree of notoriety in May when it released another open letter accusing the FBI and Supreme Court of ignoring “election irregularities” and casting doubt on Biden’s mental and physical condition.

At the time, the group was criticized by retired Adm. Mike Mullen, a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who told Politico at the time that the letter “hurts the military and by extension it hurts the country.”

US officials announced Monday that the evacuation operation at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport had been completed though they were forced to admit that hundreds of American citizens and thousands of Afghan allies had been left to their own devices in Taliban-controlled territory.
