MOSCOW, June 19 /TASS/. Western countries have been overt in their goal to destabilize Russia ahead of the 2024 presidential election, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday.

"The malicious practices of interfering in the internal affairs of sovereign nations have been ongoing," Russia’s top diplomat said, addressing a meeting of the ruling United Russia party’s commission for international cooperation and support of compatriots abroad. The West has been "overt in its goal to destabilize our country, especially ahead of the presidential election slated for next year," he added.

According to Lavrov, the US-led collective West has been waging a hybrid war on Russia. "The Kiev regime is being used as a tool, while Nazi activists in Ukraine are being supplied with modern weapons and ammunition, and [foreign] instructors and mercenaries are being sent there," he lamented. Among the goals being openly pursued by Russia’s adversaries, Lavrov said, are defeating the Russian Army on battlefield, disrupting Russia’s political and economic sovereignty, and edging it to the periphery of global politics.

"This policy also fits into the joint efforts by Washington and Brussels to maintain global dominance by trying to punish everyone who pursues an independent foreign policy and rejects the notorious rule-based order. The Americans do not hide their intention to do all they can to contain China, too," Lavrov concluded.

MOSCOW, June 19 /TASS/. A host of African leaders have confirmed their participation in the Russia-Africa summit due to be held in St. Petersburg in July, Russian Foreign Ministry’s Ambassador at Large Oleg Ozerov said on Monday.

"Many," he said, answering a TASS question. He noted, however, that it would not be appropriate to say exactly how many African leaders plan to attend the event right now because Moscow continues to receive confirmations "every day."

"It wouldn’t be right to speak about that now. Thus, we received one more note today," said Ozerov, who chairs the Secretariat of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum.

MOSCOW, June 19 /TASS/. This year’s Russia-Africa summit will pay much more attention to humanitarian issues than the previous event did, a Russian diplomat said on Monday.

"As compared with the Sochi [Russia-Africa] summit in 2019, this time the event’s humanitarian agenda will be seriously expanded through including the discussion of issues of cooperation in the areas of education, public health, science, culture, the mass media, sport, personnel training, and cooperation between youth and public organizations," Oleg Ozerov, Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador at Large and head of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum’s Secretariat, said at a roundtable meeting at Russia’s Federation Council (upper parliament house).

He said that among other priorities along with food and energy security in African countries Russia would raise "the topic of technology and expertise transfer, as well as the development of critical infrastructure in Africa."

The second Russia-Asia summit and economic forum are scheduled to be held in St. Petersburg from July 26 through 29. The first such summit was held in Sochi from October 22-24, 2019 under the motto "For Peace, Security, and Development."

MOSCOW, June 19 /TASS/. Building support for the Greater Eurasian Partnership project could be seen as the flagship project of Russia’s foreign policy, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday.

"Our flagship foreign political project is to [build] support for the concept of the Greater Eurasian Partnership. What we’re talking about is facilitating the objective process of forming a broad integrative configuration that is open for all countries and associations across our vast continent. Practical steps are already being made [in this direction]," Lavrov said.

These include the processes of interlinking the complementary development plans of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and China’s Belt and Road Initiative, expanding interaction within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) with the involvement of SCO observer states and dialogue partners, strengthening the strategic partnership between Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and establishing working contacts among the executive bodies of the EAEU, SCO and ASEAN, the foreign minister noted.
