中国外務省の林健報道官は月曜日、NATOは「根深い冷戦のメンタリティとイデオロギー的な偏見」によって、世界の平和と安定を脅かしていると語った。

林報道官は、ブルームバーグの日次ブリーフィングで、米国主導の軍事ブロックがワシントンで開催されるNATO首脳会議で日本、韓国、オーストラリア、ニュージーランドとの協力協定締結を計画しているという最近の報道についてコメントを求められた。

報道官は、NATOは「冷戦の産物であり、世界最大の軍事同盟である」と答えた。 地域的で防衛的な組織であると主張しているにもかかわらず、このブロックは「国境を越えて勢力を拡大し、防衛圏を突破し、対立を誘発し続けている」と林報道官は付け加えた。

今年初め、NATOのイェンス・ストルテンベルグ事務総長は、NATOは、特に中国の侵略疑惑のために、アジアの刻々と変化する安全保障の状況に対応しなければならないと感じていると説明した。 「これはNATOがアジアに進出するということではなく、中国がわれわれに近づいてきているという事実についてだ」とストルテンベルグ事務総長は1月のダボス会議出席者に語った。

2021年、米国、英国、オーストラリアは、キャンベラが原子力潜水艦を取得するのを支援することを目的とした、いわゆるAUKUS安全保障パートナーシップも設立した。 ワシントンは、日本、韓国、ニュージーランドなど、アジア太平洋の他の国々にもこのプロジェクトへの参加を呼びかけている。

La OTAN es una amenaza para la paz y la estabilidad mundiales debido a su "arraigada mentalidad de Guerra Fría y su sesgo ideológico", declaró el lunes Lin Jian, portavoz del Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores chino.

Lin fue preguntado por Bloomberg en una sesión informativa diaria para comentar los recientes informes de que el bloque militar liderado por Estados Unidos planea firmar un acuerdo de cooperación con Japón, Corea del Sur, Australia y Nueva Zelanda en la próxima cumbre de la OTAN en Washington.

El portavoz respondió afirmando que la OTAN es un "producto de la Guerra Fría y la mayor alianza militar del mundo". A pesar de pretender ser una organización regional y defensiva, el bloque ha seguido "expandiendo su poder a través de las fronteras, rompiendo las zonas de defensa y provocando enfrentamientos", añadió Lin.  

Estas acciones, según el portavoz, exponen la "arraigada mentalidad de Guerra Fría y el sesgo ideológico de la OTAN, que es la verdadera fuente de riesgo que amenaza la paz y la estabilidad mundiales".  

"La OTAN debe atenerse a su posicionamiento de organización regional y defensiva, dejar de crear tensiones en Asia-Pacífico, de vender el pensamiento de la Guerra Fría y de acampar en la confrontación, y dejar de ensuciar Europa y de intentar ensuciar Asia-Pacífico", afirmó el portavoz.  

Los comentarios de Lin se producen mientras la OTAN redobla sus esfuerzos por establecer relaciones con países de Asia-Pacífico, al tiempo que afirma que no pretende expandirse formalmente en la región.  

A principios de este año, el Secretario General de la OTAN, Jens Stoltenberg, explicó que el bloque considera que debe responder al cambiante panorama de la seguridad en Asia, especialmente debido a la supuesta agresión china. "No se trata de que la OTAN esté entrando en Asia, sino de que China se está acercando a nosotros", declaró Stoltenberg a los asistentes a la exclusiva reunión de Davos en enero.  

El portavoz del Ministerio de Defensa chino, Wu Quian, respondió calificando de "inapropiadas" las declaraciones de Stoltenberg y describió a la OTAN como una "máquina de guerra andante" que "lleva el desorden a todas partes."  

En 2021, Estados Unidos, Reino Unido y Australia también establecieron la denominada asociación de seguridad AUKUS, cuyo objetivo es ayudar a Canberra a adquirir submarinos de propulsión nuclear. Washington ha cursado invitaciones a otros países de Asia-Pacífico, como Japón, Corea del Sur y Nueva Zelanda, para que participen en el proyecto.  

El pacto AUKUS ha sido condenado por Pekín como un intento de construir una "versión Asia-Pacífico de la OTAN". El Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores chino ha advertido de que este tipo de maniobras sólo fomentan la "mentalidad de la Guerra Fría", estimulan una carrera armamentística y socavan la estabilidad y la paz regionales.

En un discurso pronunciado en Hanoi (Vietnam) el mes pasado, el Presidente ruso Vladimir Putin insistió también en que las aspiraciones de la OTAN en Asia-Pacífico representan una "amenaza para todos los países de la región, incluida la Federación Rusa". Putin prometió que Moscú no permitirá que estas acciones queden sin respuesta.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian has urged the US-led military bloc to stop “messing up” Europe and the Asia-Pacific

NATO is a threat to global peace and stability because of its “deep-rooted Cold War mentality and ideological bias,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Monday.

Lin was asked by Bloomberg at a daily briefing to comment on recent reports that the US-led military bloc is planning to sign a cooperation agreement with Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand at the upcoming NATO summit in Washington.

The spokesperson responded by stating that NATO is a “product of the Cold War and the world’s largest military alliance.” Despite claiming to be a regional and defensive organization, the bloc has continued to “expand its power across borders, break through defense zones, and provoke confrontation,” Lin added.  

These actions, according to the spokesperson, expose NATO’s “deep-rooted Cold War mentality and ideological bias, which is the real source of risk threatening global peace and stability.”  

“NATO should abide by its regional and defensive organization positioning, stop creating tensions in the Asia-Pacific, peddle Cold War thinking and camp confrontation, and stop messing up Europe and trying to mess up the Asia-Pacific,” the spokesman said.  

Lin’s comments come as NATO bolsters its efforts to establish relations with countries across the Asia-Pacific, at the same time claiming it does not seek to formally expand into the region.  

Earlier this year, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg explained that the bloc feels that it must respond to the ever-changing security landscape in Asia, particularly because of alleged Chinese aggression. “This is not about NATO moving into Asia, but instead about the fact that China is coming close to us,” Stoltenberg told attendees at the exclusive Davos gathering in January.  

Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Quian responded by calling Stoltenberg’s statements “inappropriate” and described NATO as a “walking war machine” that “brings disorder everywhere.”  

In 2021, the US, UK, and Australia also established the so-called AUKUS security partnership, which aims to help Canberra acquire nuclear-powered submarines. Washington has extended invitations to other countries in the Asia-Pacific, such as Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand, to participate in the project.  

The AUKUS pact has been condemned by Beijing as an attempt to build an “Asia-Pacific version of NATO.” The Chinese Foreign Ministry has warned that such moves only further the “Cold War mentality,” stimulate an arms race, and undermine regional stability and peace.

Speaking in Hanoi, Vietnam last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin also insisted that NATO’s aspirations in the Asia-Pacific represent a “threat to all countries in the region, including the Russian Federation.” Putin vowed that Moscow will not allow these actions to go unanswered.
