I find it lovely when people can add a few words.

The day before yesterday, when I went out to eat with my senior, there was a foreign tourist family having a meal.

After they finished eating, they called the waiter over and said "check, please" in Japanese.

Once they settled the bill and got up to leave, the father smiled and expressed his gratitude by saying, "It was really delicious. Thank you."

I thought that was wonderful.

Just saying "thank you" and showing appreciation is already nice, but he added a few more words.

Those kinds of words really leave a lasting memory. I'm sure the waiter must have been happy too.

While I had the habit of saying "thank you," I didn't usually add those extra words.

From the father I met at the udon shop, I feel like I learned something really important.

"It was very delicious. Thank you."
"I enjoyed it because of you. Thank you."
"I'm glad I asked you. Thank you always."

I want to convey gratitude in that way.

一言添えられる人って素敵だなと思う。

一昨日先輩とご飯を食べに行った時に、外国人観光客の家族が食事をしていた。

彼らは食事を食べ終わると、店員さんを呼び日本語で「お会計」と伝えた。

支払いを終えて立ち上がると、お父さんが帰り際に「すごくおいしかったです。ありがとう。」と笑顔で感謝を伝えて帰っていった。

素敵だなと思った。

「ありがとう」と感謝を伝えられるだけでも十分素敵だが、彼はそこにさらに一言を付け加えていた。

そういう一言って、記憶に残るんだよな。
店員さんもきっと嬉しかったと思う。

僕も「ありがとう」と言う習慣はあったけど、そこに一言付け加える習慣はなかった。

うどん屋さんで出会ったお父さんには、とっても大事なことを学んだ気がする。

「とても美味しかった。ありがとう。」
「君のおかげで楽しめた。ありがとう。」
「君に頼んで良かった。いつもありがとう。」

そんな風に感謝を伝えていきたい。
