Chiba Ecological Energy Inc. and Solaris Nexus Co., Ltd. sign a business alliance agreement to promote the full-scale diffusion of agrivoltaics power generation.

Aiming to establish a structure to achieve the introduction of new sources of annual 100 MW scale photovoltaic and agrivoltaics power generation by 2030, Chiba Ecological Energy Inc. and Solaris Nexus Co, Ltd. and Solaris Nexus Co., Ltd. have jointly formulated a sustainable business strategy based on their extensive expertise in the field of agrivoltaics power generation and capabilities to originate and develop new projects, and signed a business alliance agreement on December 8, 2023.

◎Background of Business Alliance
As decarbonization becomes more important in the international context, we, renewable energy companies, are required to play a new role in Japan. Amidst the international emphasis on decarbonization, there is a growing recognition of the need for a new role for us, renewable energy companies, within the domestic context. Instead of the conventional investment-driven approach, the future requires a focus on the societal role that renewable energy companies should play, considering industrial competitiveness and regional coexistence.
 
The problem of the decreasing number of farmers, decline of the local economy, and decreasing trend in food self-sufficiency rates are critical issues that affect not only depopulated areas, but also local governments and and the entire country. As a solution to these societal challenges, there is growing attention to the effectiveness of agrivoltaics. While the barriers that have prevented the full-scale diffusion of agrivoltaics power generation have been perceived as neither technological nor economic, but rather the experience of society as a whole, practical examples are increasingly emerging nationwide. It is at this juncture that Chiba Ecological Energy Inc. and Solaris Nexus Co., Ltd. decided to pursue a business alliance focused on the social role of renewable energy companies.
 
◎Purpose of the Business Alliance
Chiba Ecological Energy Inc.'s extensive expertise in agrivoltaics, combined with Solaris Nexus Co., Ltd.'s capabilities in originating and developing new projects, aims to initiate efforts primarily in Chiba Prefecture—the birthplace of Chiba Ecological Energy Inc. and its hub for industry-academia collaboration and regional partnerships. The goal is to establish a structure that will enable the introduction of new photovoltaics and agrivoltaics sources nationwide, achieving an annual capacity of 100MW by 2030.
