暑くなると夏野菜が食べたくなります。今年は大河ドラマ「どうする家康」を見ながらこれを食べたら、よりおいしく感じられるかもしれません。

折戸ナス：折戸地区のナス パート１
In Japan, there is a popular phrase to express auspiciousness.
日本ではおめでたいことを表すのに有名なフレーズがあります。
We will say;
"Ichi Fuji,
Ni taka,
San nasubi"
「一富士二鷹三茄子」と言います。
In translation:
訳すと
"The first is Mt. Fuji,
the second is a hawk,
and the third is an eggplant."
「一番目は富士山、二番目は鷹、三番目はナス」となります。
This talks about what can appear in people's dreams on January 2 that can bring good luck.
これは1月2日、幸運をもたらす人々の夢に現れるものを言っています。
So, if anybody dreams of any of these three while sleeping on January 2nd, it is said that the person will have good fortune.
ですから、もし1月2日、眠っている間にこれらの内、いずれかの夢をみるなら、その人は幸運を手に入れるだろうと言われています。
Another theory says that these three items are Lord Ieyasu's favorites.
別の説によると、これら三つのものは家康公のお気に入りです。
一富士二鷹三茄子がデザインされている
It is said that he usually served eggplans to visitors at Sumpu Castle.
家康公は普段、駿府城を訪れた人々にナスをふるまったと言われます。
The historical record indicates that eggplants harvested in the Orido area, in the present-day Shimizu Ward, were offered to Tokugawa family in Sumpu Castle.
記録によると、現在の清水区にある折戸で収穫されたナスが駿府城の徳川家に献上されました。
三保松原のすぐ近く
During the Edo period, there was a myth that partaking in the first harvest or catch of the season would extend one’s life by 75 days.
江戸時代、季節の初物を食べると寿命が75日伸びるという説がありました。
And eggplants are one of them, as it's a summer crop.
そしてナスは、夏の作物であり、季節の初物の一つでした。
注！あくまでもイメージです。折戸ナスではありません！
So, Lord Ieyasu encouraged local farmers to harvest this type of eggplant earlier. It is considered that this is the first enforced cultivation in Japan.
ですから、家康公は地元の農民にこのナスをより早く収穫するよう促していました。
