ロードオブザリングを英語で観よう　その１

41日目です。１ヶ月頑張ったので、今日から１週間ほど、ロードオブザリングの英語をやります。やる内容は至ってシンプルです。セリフの和訳をします。ロードオブザリングを日本語字幕なしで英語音声で理解することを目標とします。これ実は中学生の時からやりたかったんですが、何度か挫折してしまいまして。こんどこそやってやるという気持ちでいってみようと思います。この作品に関しては、オリジナル音声も日本語吹き替えも大好きです。今回やるのは第１作 the FELLOWSHIP of the RING です。冒頭部分をやります。まずは全文です。
趣味なのでざっくり訳でいきます。は一文一文しっかり訳していこうと思います。

1.今日やる文

The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. Much that once was is lost. For none now live who remember it.

It began with the forging of the Great Rings. Three were given to the Elves: Immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Seven to the Dwarf-lords: Great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And nine nine rings were gifted to the race of Men who, above all else, desire power.

For within these rings was bound the strength and will to govern each race. But they were all of them deceived. For another ring was made. In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom the dark lord Sauron forged in secret a Master Ring to control all others. And into this Ring he poured his cruelty, his malice and his will to dominate all life. One ring to rule them all. One by one the free lands of Middle-earth fell to the power of the Ring. But there were some who resisted.A Last Alliance of Men and Elves marched against the armies of Mordor. And on the slopes of Mount Doom, they fought for the freedom of Middle-earth.

Victory was near. But the power of the Ring could not be undone. It was in this moment when all hope had faded that Isildur, son of the king, took up his father’s sword.

Sauron, the enemy of the Free Peoples of Middle-earth, was defeated.The Ring passed to Isildur who had this one chance to destroy evil forever.

But the hearts of Men are easily corrupted. And Ring of Power has a will of its own. It betrayed Isildur to his death. And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost.

History became legend, legend became myth. And for two and a half thousand years the Ring passed out of all knowledge.

Until, when chance came, it ensnared a new bearer. My precious. The Ring came to the creature Gollum who took it deep into the tunnels of the Misty Mountains. And there it consumed him. It came to me.

"My own. My love. My own. My precious."

The Ring brought to Gollum unnatural long life. For 500 years it poisoned his mind. And in the gloom of Gollum’s cave, it waited. Darkness crept back into the forests of the world. Rumor grew of a shadow in the East whispers of a nameless fear. And the Ring of power perceived its time had now come. It abandoned Gollum. But something happened then the Ring did not intend. It was picked up by the most unlikely creature imaginable.

 ”What’s this?"

A Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins of the Shire.

"A ring."

"Lost! My precious is lost!"

For the time will soon come when Hobbits will shape the fortunes of all.

今までやった京大の問題の半分くらいあるんじゃないかな？（苦笑）

2．読んでみよう

すごく物語っぽい導入ですよね。世界が変わったのを至る所から感じる。その変化の中で多くのものが忘れ去られたんだ、ということです。 For none now live who remember it.が少し難しいでしょうか？none liveで誰もいない。who からがnone の説明です。それを覚えているがwhoなのでつまり覚えている人は誰もいない。ですね。

世界が指輪から始まるってなんかすごいですよね。forgeは鍛造とかをする鍛冶場のことです。ゲームやってる人だと溶鉱炉のイメージが強いと思います。
エルフに３、ドワーフに７そして人間に９の指輪が与えられたそうですが、この数字に意味ってあるんでしょうか？エルフは不死身、ドワーフは鉱夫であり鍛治職人、mountain hallは文字通り山の広場、広場には公的な意味が強いので、山に宮殿を作ってるって感じですかね？はなれ山にはドワーフの王国がありましたし。そして人間は権力欲旺盛と、人間どうしようもありませんね（笑）
ここはgiven とgiftedがほぼ同じ意味で使われてるのがポイントでしょうか。

指輪の力でそれぞれの種族はうまく行ってたみたいですboundは「束ねる」です。
でもそれは罠だったと、decieveは「騙す」です。どうでもいいですけど、冥王サウロンって響きめっちゃかっこいいですよね。そしてその冥王は全てを支配する指輪を作ったと、one by oneは「一つずつ」byは近くなので、一つその近くにもう一つで一つずつです。個人的にlast alliance「最後の連合軍」これめっちゃかっこいいです。実際エルフはこれ以降人間に種族をあげて援助してくれなくなりますからね。そしてその連合軍が敵地のど真ん中で自由のために戦いました。映像では明らかに山の麓ですが、slopeは山の中腹というより麓の方がいい気がします。

勝てそうだっだけどサウロンのせいで一気に無理ゲーになったみたいです。この後人間の王子のIsildurが王の剣をとってサウロンの指を切り落としてサウロンを滅ぼします。

指輪はIsildurの元に渡ります。それが悪を滅ぼす最後の機会だったそうです。

corruptは腐るとか堕落するです。

ensnaredは罠にかけるです。My precious.は多分この作品一番の名台詞ですね。「私のいとしいしと」は個人的には神翻訳だと思います。結構toが多く出てきますね。指輪の移動が関係ありそうですが。consumeは消費するですが、人の心を消費するで魅了すると捉えてもいいかもしれませんここら辺ゴラムをただのものと捉えている感じでconsumeという表現は好きです。

"My own. My love. My own. My precious."

ゴラムのセリフです。ここの部分、映画では「誰にもやらないぞ　俺の大切なもの」と超絶意訳になってます。何を伝えたいかが大事なんでしょうね。面白いです。

unnatural long lifeが目的語ですが前置詞の塊の後ろに来ています。これThe Ring brought Gollum unnatural long life.じゃあダメなんですかねぇ？gloomは暗がりって意味です。creptはcreepの過去形です。這うとかですね。

"Lost! My precious is lost!"

出ました大戦犯ビルボ・バギンズ。まあこいつのおかげでサウロンの完全復活を阻止てきたとも言えなくはないので救いようがないわけではありませんが…

ところでよく文頭にforが出てくるんですけどこれなんなんですかね？理由の接続詞なんでしょうか？
