The population of Sagishima is 579 in 2023. The aging of the population in Sagishima is more rapid than the aging of the population in Japan as a whole. Below is a population pyramid of Sagishima I created, based on data provided by Mihara City. The population pyramid for Japan as a whole can be found at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications page.

上記の3つのグラフは、アメリカ・日本・佐木島の人口ピラミッドを比較したものです。私たちは、建築デザインを考える時、背景にある社会がどんなものかをできる限り知ろうとする必要があります。これらの図は、各地の社会構成員が全く異なるものであることを端的に教えてくれるものです。
The three graphs above compare the population pyramids of the United States, Japan, and Sagishima. When we consider architectural design, we need to try to know as much as possible about what the background society is like. These charts tell us in a nutshell that the members of society in each region are quite different.

佐木島のコミュニティを維持するには、若年層の流入が不可欠です。The Red Dot Schoolは鷺浦小学校と積極的に連携することで、島の教育の魅力化に貢献し、人口流入の力に一助になりたいと考えています。また今後流入する若年層にとっても、島民にとっても、島での住生活と文化的環境がより豊かなものである様、建築の手段を通じて貢献したいと考えています。

The influx of young people is essential to maintaining the community of Sagishima, and The Red Dot School hopes to contribute to the attractiveness of education on the island by actively working with Sagiura Elementary School to help power the influx of young generation. We also hope to contribute to the enrichment of the island's residential life and cultural environment, both for the young people who will be coming to the island and for the islanders, through the means of architecture.
