5 Quick Tips to Manage Heartburn During Pregnancy

If you’re feeling acidic, or gaseous behind the breastbones, it tends to go up to the oesophagus (The connecting tube between the throat, and stomach). It takes place around the second and third trimester of your pregnancy and occurs as a result of rising pregnancy hormones, and the baby developing inside you (accommodating the uterine space and exerting pressure on the stomach). Approximately, 45% of you suffer from heartburn during your pregnancy. But, you needn’t worry. Here are a few naturally cool ways to calm the burn.

  • A nutritional intake is essential: Since certain foods pickles, sauces, chocolates, citrus fruits, etc are acid triggers, you can say “no” to them till you complete your pregnancy journey. Eat small meals, and quite often throughout the day. Small meals are easy to digest after all.

  • Don’t lie down immediately after lunch or dinner: Yes! Take at least 60 minutes to let the food settle in the stomach and digest. The acid slowly moves into the intestine and the nutrients go to the developing baby who needs it and finally, it goes to the placenta. When you’re lying down during your pregnancy, ensure that you take the left side.

  • Wear loose and comfortable clothes: You may be an expecting mummy, but that doesn’t mean you’d have to wear those shapeless tent-like dresses as your maternity wear. Wear light cotton fabric, which will be comfortable for you too.

  • Sit up: Correct posture while you’re sitting down can be of real help to you. Sit straight. The gravity will push everything in the downward direction, helping you to digest. This aside it will reduce your back pain.

  • Fluid intake: Staying hydrated is important. Water can keep the pesky acid reflux drown out. Gradually, it will also stop moving upwards. But, you must not drink the whole water at once. Take small sips.

  • Have fun with chewing gums: Keeping chewing gums in your mouth can enhance the production of saliva to stop causing the nasty acidic tendency.

Also, a spoonful of yoghurt before and after your meal or meals can cool down the acidic tendency. Don’t worry! Accept the changes in your body to stay safe and comfy.
