Ways to Improve Bowel Movement After the Delivery of Your Baby

Giving birth to another life is no less than happiness. Nevertheless, becoming a new mom is very challenging. While your body is taking its own time to heal and go back to its pre-pregnancy body, you’ll bleed, feel achy, and fatigued in the body as well as your mind. At the same time, constipation after the delivery of your baby is something that nobody discusses. There are several reasons why postpartum bowel movements may not be regular. Hormonal changes after the delivery of your baby play a very big role in this.
But, there are ways through which you can improve the bowel movement after the delivery of your baby:

Drink Plenty of Water

You should aim to drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water every day. Drinking warm water can also be quite helpful during this time. Along with the plain water, you can try intake of apple or prune juice.

Fill Your Diet With Fiber

How about having fruits, veggies, legumes etc. in your pregnancy diet? Intake of white bread, rice, or pasta can also work wonders for you at this stage of your life. It will act as a stool softener.

Be Active

Just like your pregnancy days,  it's important to stay active after giving birth, even if it's just walking around the house or taking short walks outside with your baby. Also, try out postpartum yogasanas – camel pose, bridge pose, mountain pose, etc.

Try Magnesium

Magnesium citrate is known to increase the amount of water in the intestinal tract, which can help promote bowel movements. However, it's important to consult with a doctor or midwife before taking magnesium and determine the appropriate dosage for you.

Try Not to Strain

Remember not to strain while trying to improve your bowel movements after giving birth. Straining can cause or worsen haemorrhoids, and pushing too hard or forcing it is a sign that your body isn't ready yet. It's best to take a break and try again later, as it will happen eventually.

The phase of being a new mom is the most exciting no doubt. But challenges will always be there. You need to accept and find your way out.
