Hair and Nails Grow Faster During Pregnancy: How Can You Help It?

Progression of pregnancy can cause a host of changes both in your body and mind – feeling nauseous, tired, swollen, anxious, etc.

By the 20th week of your pregnancy, you might notice your hair to be healthier, thicker, and shinier. The hair is growing faster too. Around 85% to 95% of the hair growth is on the head. Possibly, you’ll develop hair on your face as well as your body.

Reasons Behind Hair Growth During Pregnancy

Give credit to your soaring pregnancy hormones for the hair growth on your head, face, and body. You’ll experience hair growth If you have large meals or have doctor-recommended prenatal vitamins. Moreover, adequate sleep to combat fatigue, and stress can contribute to the health of your pregnancy.

Tips to Make Your Hair Look Healthy

There are many things that you can do to ensure that the hair growth is under control, and the hair is strong and supple.

  • Shaving may be an ideal way to reduce your hair growth, but tweezing is one of the better ways to stay away from stray hair on the face, and waxing is to get rid of the extra hair growth.

  • You can have plenty of fresh veggies and fruits

  •  Avoid combing your hair immediately after washing it. Whenever you comb your hair, do it with a wide-toothed comb.

  • Try to avoid hair straighteners, curlers, and blow driers. Overheating can damage your hair.

  • Try not to tie your hair tightly.

Reasons Behind Nail Growth During Pregnancy and the Ways to Take Care

Due to the surge in the pregnancy hormones, just like your hair, your nails also grow. You may feel the need for the clippers every other of your pregnancy. Getting all the necessary nutrients during and after pregnancy is essential for the health of the nails of both you and the baby inside you. However, if you consume the right foods and maintain a balanced diet, your nails will be healthy and strong within three to six months even after the delivery of the baby.

Additionally, you can wear rubber gloves while you’re cleaning or using a moisturiser.  Avoid biting the nails. File them neatly and carefully. Watch out for discolouration.

Just a little bit of little of change in colour, texture, or shape isn’t that serious. But, for painful ingrown nails, consult the healthcare provider.
