Parables in the Bible 📖 Part 5
Kingdom of God 👑 Jesus’ Parable of the Sower and the Seed
The parable of the sower and the seed is one of Jesus’ classic teachings, as well as God’s commandment for mankind. This is really important for every Christian. After we accepted the way of God, we should obey it with an honest heart. Only thus can our lives bear fruit. In this parable, Jesus listed three situations that would possibly make mankind lose God’s way. This is the very thing we should pay attention to in our daily life.
In real life, we face various temptations and attacks from Satan, which makes us move away from God and live in sin. Maybe we all have such a feeling: When we are greedy for material enjoyments, when we leave God and seek after high positions by ourselves, we will be in extreme pain once we suffer failures or setbacks. At this time, we may easily fall for Satan’s tricks and complain against God, stray from God and once again live under Satan’s domain. It reminds me of Jesus’ teaching: “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, which built his house on a rock” (Matthew 7:24). Only when we keep our faith in God and act according to Jesus’ words can we build our house on the rock, standing firm no matter trials.
Not long ago, I saw a passage from a book: “In every age, God bestows some words upon man when He works in the world, telling man of some truths. These truths serve as the way to be adhered to by man, the way that is to be walked in by man, the way that enables man to fear God and shun evil, and the way that people should put into practice and adhere to in their lives and over the course of their life journeys. It’s for these reasons that God bestows these words on man. These words that come from God should be adhered to by man, and to adhere to them is to receive life.”
It can be seen that only God’s words can make us fear God and shun evil. When God’s words become our foundation, we can discern good from evil, see through Satan’s schemes, and can stand firm by relying on God. For example, the reason why Peter could be a person approved of by God was that he cherished every word spoken by Jesus and practiced and experienced Jesus’ words in his daily life. Sometimes he too was weak or sometimes he too misunderstood God, but because he had God’s words as a foundation, he always maintained his faith in God until he was nailed to the cross, and he achieved an ultimate love of God and obeyed God unto death. Peter is the exemplar for all Christians. Hope we can focus on maintaining a normal relationship with God in real life and strengthening the foundation of our faith.
