20240129 Why you should know how much your coworkers get paid ~TED Talk~
I've watched the TED Talk mentioned above. Here's a summary and my opinion on it:.
<Summary>
Most employees hardly know how much their coworkers get paid, and salary issue have traditionally been kept secret. Perhaps because it was thought to be a source of conflict and resignation. But the larger reason is that asymmetry has been used to control the bargaining power of salaries. But that transparency is essential for firms, workers, and markets. That is why we should insist on disclosure of salary in any form.
<opinion>
I have been subconsciously questioning the opacity of salaries for some time, and this presentation helped me to clearly recognize the problem! The fundamental problem, however, is those who are paid too much, and in most cases those in high positions are unwilling to give up that privilege in order to remain in a secure position. I felt that such a move should be made in all workplaces in order to receive fairer and more appropriate recognition.
