A violin case belonging to the leader of the orchestra on the Titanic has been auctioned in Britain.
It was found strapped to his body after the luxury steamship sank in 1912.
Britain's public broadcaster, BBC, has reported the brown leather bag belonging to Wallace Hartley fetched about 362,000 dollars at the auction on Saturday.
The auction house says the leather bag which carries Hartley's initials, W, H, H, was a gift from his fiancé.
The orchestra played on the deck of the Titanic to calm panicked passengers after the ship struck an iceberg and began to sink.
Hartley's body was recovered after the disaster with the case containing the violin strapped to him.
He possibly used it for buoyancy.
The violin case was returned to his fiancé but later passed through the hands of a number of different people.
