New Years in Yanagawa

What do you think, Grandma?
Does this picture look mouth-watering? Actually, it didn't to me first!
It's the "Ozoni" I had in Yanagawa. Doesn't it look pretty different from ours?
Ours has white miso and some chicken, right?
You know what Yanagawa uses?
Here are the ingredients;

【Soup / broth】
・sliced dried squid
・sliced dried kelp
・dried bonito
→all of them can be eaten, of course

【Toppings】
・kamaboko (fish cake)
・mochi (rice cake)
・satoimo (Japanese taro)
・carrot
・dikon (Japanese radish)

and….

・whale meat ---- surprise!

It's my father-in-law who is responsible for this cooking of ozoni. He does everything from scratch, making sure his favorite mochi is well melted.

It's pretty amazing to see that FIL actually stands in the kitchen because he never does anything literary related to cooking except for this occasion!

Well, he just wants his mochi just how he wants.
