Review of "Letters from Juan" after reading all the volumes.

I have finished reading all the volumes of ”Letters from Juan”. It does not have a great reputation on the Internet, but I would like to write a review in English because I think that is definitely a matter of literacy on the part of the readers.

Magic Rainbow finally appears!

My impressions after reading through all the volumes are two things below.

  1. Reading Ascanio's theory is an indispensable prerequisite to understand Tamariz's thought for each trick.

  2. It is essential to read between the lines and read the message from Tamaritz's description.

It is true that if you look at the tricks alone, many of them are mediocre or study for the structure/theory of tricks, and I can understand why they are not praised. However, they are ignoring too much of the Tamaritz message and Ascanio's theory behind them. I think the warning in the preface to vol. 6 is particularly resonant for those nerds who don't try to read it that way. It talks about magicians being too interested only in the secrets themselves. I would like to keep that in mind as well.

There are also a lot of tips in general, but these are very good or Tamaritz's original ones, and that makes it easy to get a "good read" feeling.

The price is quite expensive if you get the whole book, especially for Japanese as JPY has been very weak in 2023. If you ask me if it is worth the price, it is true that it is not something I can recommend from the bottom of my heart, but... I personally recommend vol.2, vol.4, and vol.5, so I think you can choose not all volumes, but those ones.

Here is the English review of Vol.3. If you want me to write more reviews on other publications in English, please let me know via Twitter.
