Perceptions

Something I've never written about here: I play classical guitar.
I've been playing (not professional by any means) for many years. For the most part classical works. A person who has heard me play classical music over the years has never made a remark about my playing except to say to someone (this I overheard) that I don't play that well. Recently I'd bought a book called "Fingerstyle Guitar Method" because I wanted to play some popular folk/jazz music. In the book I found an arrangement of the Beatles' "Yesterday." It was immidatedly playable and simple compared to the classical compositions I'd been playing. When I finished the piece I heard clapping from the other room and a comment "I didn't know you played so well!" To which I responded that I'd been playing classical pieces all these years and you've never said a word. The person answered "Oh, those just put me to sleep."

And there is what we are up against all our lives. Don't expected to be appreciated for you efforts unless they happen to please someone. Satisfaction can only come from within.
