About Japan｜Taru wo shirumono wa tomu

Japanese proverb:
“Taru wo shirumono wa tomu.”

Although I think this proverb is not famous in Japan now,
I like it very much.

It means...
Many Japanese people are saying like these, but I feel a little different🤔

A contented mind is a perpetual feast.
The rich who know enough.
Enough is as good as a feast.
etc.

Actually this proverb wasn’t made in Japan.
This is the part of the old Chinese book that was written by Laozi.

An example of my case😊

I’m staying at home in this self-isolation, so I decided to eat less.
Since I'm Japanese, I decided to focus on rice🍚

But Japanese people eat rice as their staple food, but they always eat side dishes.
In other words, the main character is not rice, but a side dish😭

So I’m(to be exact “my husband is”) trying rice become as a hero of our dinner✨

Only rice no side dishes:
Onigiri, Okayu, Ojiya, Risotto, Mazegohan, Takikomigohan, Chahan, Pilaf, etc.

I didn’t know how rice was delicious😋
So I changed “Genmai.”
(Genmai is unpolished brown rice.)

It has exceeded the taste of rice that I knew🤩
Maybe it’s enough to me.
And I can know the true taste of rice.

Past Japanese people ate rice without side dishes or with only one side dish.

Now that we are eating too much, we can’t know the true tast of rice.

If we know “ENOUGH”, we can get new experience for our future.

“Taru wo shirumono wa tomu” isn’t meaning “Live modestly.”
