外国のトイレ事情

私が以前に学校の再生プロジェクトでお手伝いしていた長野のフリースクールでは、生徒たちが寄付金を集めてラオスに小学校を建てるプロジェクトがあり、その視察旅行へ同行させてもらったことがあります。そのときに小学校に通う生徒の村の民家に一泊させてもらう機会がありました。

私が泊まったお宅ではトイレは風呂場の洗い場にちょうど2本下駄を逆さにしたように一段高くなった足場が二筋あり、そこに立って間に流す構造のものでした。その時はさすがにショックであまり記憶がないのですが、紙はなくて溜めてある水で洗って流したと思います。

後で聞いた話だと、それでも良い方だったようです。男性陣が泊まったお宅では外の小川へ行ったようでした。

At the Nagano Free School, where I helped with the school rehabilitation project before, there was a project where students collected donations to build an elementary school in Laos, and I was accompanied on an inspection trip.

At that time, I had the opportunity to stay overnight at a private house in the village of an elementary school student.
At the house where I stayed, the toilet had two raised scaffoldings just like two clogs turned upside down in the washing area of the bathroom, and the structure was to stand there and flush between them.
I was so shocked that I don't remember much, but I think I washed it with the water stored in the bath.

According to what I heard later, it was still good.
The house where the men stayed seemed to have gone to a stream outside.
