１ at first / the start

At first, he was really scared.
「最初は本当に怖がっていた」

at first / the start「最初は」/ 時間軸の中で「first」の「点」でというニュアンスです。この後も、物事の時間に関する熟語を見ていきましょう。

２ at last

At last I was able to work undisturbed.
「ついに誰にも邪魔されずに仕事ができるようになった」

at last「ついに」/ 「last」の「点」でというニュアンス。

３ at an end

The war was at an end.
「戦争は終結した」

at an end「終わって」/ 「end」の「点」で。

４ at short notice

The plans are subject to change at short notice.
「計画は急遽変更される場合がある」

at short notice「急に、突然の」/ 短い→「突然」notice「通知」から「急に」

５ at earliest / at the earliest

We can't finish before next Friday at the earliest.
「早くても来週の金曜日までには終わらない」

at earliest / at the earliest「早くとも」/ earliest →もっとも「早い」と直訳するとわかりやすい。

６ at any moment

The bridge is liable to collapse at any moment.
「橋は今にも崩れそうだ」

at any moment「今にも」/ どんな瞬間でもと考える。

７ at intervals / at intervals of

These cars are put at intervals of three meters.
「これらの車は3メートル間隔で置かれている」

at intervals「間隔を置いて」 / at intervals of「～の間隔を置いて」/ intervals「間隔」という意味。

８ at the end of

He was drunk at the end of the party.
「彼はパーティーの終わりには酔っぱらっていた」

at the end of「～の終わりに、末に」

９ at length

He succeeded at length.
「彼はついに成功した」

at length「ついに、詳細に」/ length「長さ」→ 「詳細」/ 

１０ at the beginning of

At the beginning of June an event occurred.
「月初旬、ある出来事が起こった」

at the beginning of「～のはじめに」/ beginningは「begin」の名詞系だね！
