Human Library

Hello, everyone! How are you today? This is Teacher Asuka.

Today I'm going to talk about the Human Library.
Do you know what it is? It is a library where you can borrow "people" instead of "books". This "human being", i.e. the role of  lenders, here generally means people who are easily misunderstood and prejudiced, such as refugees, homeless people, visually impaired people, young mothers, Muslim people, Jewish people and so on. They are all volunteers.

Borrowers will borrow such 'people' in the library and can choose a role of lender to talk to there. It takes about 30 minutes for the borrower and the role of the lender to talk to each other.
It is up to the role of the lender to answer any questions. Such borrowers will ask some questions to role of lenders, but such lenders do not have to answer all the questions. That's a basic principle of the Human Library.

The Human Library has started in Denmark in 2000, it will be held the activities in around 85 countries nowadays. It is said that the mission of the role of lenders is to introduce other facts rather than general facts while answering.

People should hope to take an interest in such people, who are easily misunderstood and prejudiced, and listen carefully to their individual way of life through the activities.

Thank you for being with me as always!
See you next time
