Malevich's Suprematist Composition: White on White was one of the first paintings to propose that modern art need not refer to any reality outside of itself and that geometric forms could be positioned to give the illusion of movement and limitless space. Katarzyna Kobro, who established a creative relationship with Malevich in the early 1920s when she lived in Russia, acknowledged the inspiration her sculpture took from his work: "Malevich raises the problem of balance in the distribution of weights and masses in space, in his dynamic-spatial build-ups, and in his theoretical discussions."
