シティポップブーム

随分前からか、世界の一部で日本のシティポップが流行っているようです。言葉の意味は分からなくても、メロディや曲調が好きで聴いてもらえるっていうのは、音楽ってやはり偉大だなーと思います。

このノスタルジック感、それぞれの文化に関係なく感じさせるっていうのは不思議ですね。人間の本能であるのかな。

今日はイギリス発のSewing BeeというTVシリーズのシーズン5 EP1を視聴したので、そこからいくつかピックアップです。

corker

an excellent or astonishing person or thing
ex) The team's manager has come up with an absolute corker of an idea.

deliberate

慎重に考える、検討する
to think or talk seriously and carefully about something:
ex) He's deliberating whether or not to accept the new job that he's been offered.

scrape through

（ギリギリで）やり遂げる、成功する
to succeed at doing something but just barely
ex) He didn't study for the exam and just scraped through.

blow away

impress someone greatly
ex) I'm blown away by his new poem.

so-and-so

何々（さん）
used instead of a particular name to refer to someone or something, especially when the real name is not important or you have forgotten it:
ex) She always keeps me up to date with the latest gossip - you know, so-and-so from down the road is having a baby and so-and-so's just bought a car.

エピソード内で、「hungry in the bum」という表現があったのですが、まだ意味が掴めていませんで。。
出来上がったジャンプスーツのお尻の部分が少しタイトな仕上がりになっており、それをジャッジが指摘したときに発したフレーズなのですが、bum＝お尻、hungry..?
hungryには「お腹が空く」の意味以外に「何かを強く欲する（having a strong wish or desire for something）」という意味もあるみたいで、そこから転じて…？
こういう簡単な英単語も意味が一つだけじゃなかったりするので、出くわすとおっ？となると同時に新しい表現を覚えられて楽しいですね！
