Japanese Style │ Grooming enables you to change jobs and find employment

Job hunting and looking for a new job:  Interview attire and grooming

The following is a list of the dress and appearance requirements for job interviews in the job hunting/looking for a new job.
The key to each of these is "cleanliness".

Job hunting and looking for a new job:  What kind of bag is appropriate for an interview?

Avoid bags in flashy colors such as red or yellow. Ideally, business bags should be dark, such as black or brown in color, and can hold A4-size or larger documents.
In your bag, bring your resume/CV and writing utensils (notepad, ballpoint pen, etc.).
It is advisable to place your resume/CV in an A4 clear file, etc. without folding it.

Messenger bags, casual backpacks, and pouch sized pouches are not acceptable.
It is also not acceptable to go to an interview without a bag and empty-handed.

Job hunting and looking for a new job:  What kind of makeup is appropriate for an interview?

In the Japanese business setting, makeup is regarded as a part of personal grooming, just like clothes and hairstyle.

If you cannot wear makeup due to sensitive skin, allergies, or other circumstances, there is no need to force yourself to do so, but keep in mind that you will make a better impression if you are wearing makeup.

However, "natural makeup" is the basic rule.
Heavy makeup and extreme decorations (fake eyelashes, etc.) are not suitable for job-hunting and office situations. Also, using too many flashy colors, such as eye makeup in a color that is contrasting with your skin tone (blue, green, etc.) or dark lipstick, is unacceptable.
Browns, pinks, and oranges are good choices for natural, Japanese-style makeup.

If you are interviewing for a job in the apparel industry or a cosmetics manufacturer, wear makeup that matches the image of the company brand as well as your attire.

Example: If a natural cosmetics manufacturer, wear natural makeup.
If it's an apparel company that deals with flashy, pop-inspired clothing, then heavy makeup to match the image of the clothing is acceptable!

As with clothing and makeup, use simple designs with colors that are not too flashy.

For interviews in the apparel industry, etc., it is acceptable to put on nail polish that matches the company's brand image, as well as clothing.

Job hunting and looking for a new job:  What should you do if you are asked to "come in casual clothes"  for an interview? What does it mean?

You may be asked to "come in plain clothes" for the interview.
There are two purposes for conducting an interview in casual clothing.
First, they want to see your sense of style (sensibility and interests), and second, they want to promote their consideration for you and their company culture.

The first, "If they want to see your sense of style (sensibility and interests)," is a common pattern in companies such as apparel makers that manufacture and sell clothes and jewelry.
In addition, designers and beauty professionals may also ask you to "come in casual clothing.
In these industries and occupations, it is important to make suggestions that will suit the customer's tastes and make them think, "I look great!" so, your sensitivity and hobbies are considered "one of the most important skills".
Think of it as a test to see what kind of clothes you wear and how you present yourself.

In this case, wear clothing that matches the image of the corporate brand you are going to interview with. Dress in clothing that is similar to the image of the clothing that is sold in the store of the company where you are interviewing.
If there is no store nearby, check the website or official social media to see what the store staff and employees are wearing.

The second is "when we are promoting our consideration for you and the corporate culture of the company," which means the following.
・"Please do not wear a suit or other formal attire, but come in casual clothing to make you feel at ease."
・"We don't have a suit-and-tie rule, and you can dress casually. The same goes for the interview."

Interviews can be nerve-wracking, so this can be a message that says, "We would like to talk with you in a relaxed state," or "Our company allows casual dress."
It also serves as an appeal to the company that "our company culture is casual and not formal".

Interviews can be nerve-wracking, so this can be a message that says, "We would like to talk with you in a relaxed state," or "Our company allows casual dress."

For interviews in these cases, avoid revealing clothing and wear cleanliness clothing to the interview.

Example.) 〇 Polo shirt 〇 Chinos pants 〇 Plain T-shirts
△ T-shirts with large cartoon characters △ Damaged jeans △ Hoodies
✖ Shorts ✖ Camisoles ✖ Miniskirts ✖ Sandals

If the description says "free to wear anything for an interview," you may wear a suit or office casual, but it is safer to wear a suit to the interview.
The perception of the degree of casualness differs depending on the industry and type of job.
If you are not sure, wear a suit.

However, this does not mean that you can wear whatever you like, and each company has its own dress code.
Check with your human resources manager or observe your surroundings carefully to make sure you match the dress code.
