イオラニ・プナホウ受験を検討されている方は必ず検討されたことがあるのではないのでしょうか。今日はホームページなどには載っていないセントラルユニオンチャーチプレスクールの授業内容について簡単にご紹介したいと思います。
クラス内容
学年によって学ぶことは違いますが、毎週テーマがあります。２歳のクラスでは色、形など様々なことを遊びを通じて学んでいくのですが、歌や踊り、アクティビティを通じて子供たちは楽しく学んでいけるプログラムになっています。
また、クラスで行うだけでなく、家でも復習できるように先生が日々メールで紹介してくれます。
例えば黄色を学ぶ際には、Life cycle of a chickを読んで、このような質問を家でしてみてねと先生が紹介してくれます。以下は午後配信されるメールの一例です。
For our yellow days, we focused on all things yellow. During our circle time we talked about various yellow items, and we came across chicks and eggs (eggs we can cook and the eggs that animals hatch from). Throughout the 2 days, we read a story called, “Life cycle of a chick.” They were super interested in this book and enjoyed reading it very much.
In the “Life cycle of a chick” we learned that the daddy is called a Rooster and says “cock-a-doodle doo” and the mommy is a chicken/hen and says “buck buck” or “cluck cluck”. Please feel free to do an Ask Me About with your child.
You may also ask your child about…
“What does the mommy hen do?”…she lays the eggs.
“What lives in the egg?”…a chick
“What color is a chick?”….yellow
“What does the chick say?”…cheep cheep
What does the chick use to come out of the shell?...a beak
Please feel free to elaborate on this. We also talked about how the chick grows inside the shell and when it’s ready, it uses its beak to come out. And when it comes out it’s wet, and once they dry off, they puff up and is yellow. As our yellow activity project, we learned about different parts of a chick and got to make our very own! They painted and glued yellow tissue paper, eyes, a beak, wings, yellow feathers, and chicken feet (claws).
形について学んだ日は、学校で聴いてる曲を家でもきき、こんなアクティビティをしてみましょうという感じです。この日は長い休みも挟んでいたため、簡単なホームワークも用意されていました。＊基本宿題はないです。

HOMEWORK: Shapes are all around us! One of our songs that we listen to shows us all kinds of shapes that we might see in our house, outside, in our neighborhood, or anywhere we go. We are asking each child to bring in items that are shaped like a CIRCLE, SQUARE, RECTANGLE, HEART, STAR, and TRIANGLE. (6 ITEMS TOTAL) You can either bring in physical items that your child has at home, OR, you can go for a walk and take pictures of these various shapes that you might see in your neighborhood. Please bring it in a gallon size Ziploc bag labeled with your child’s name. (PHYSICAL ITEMS OR PICTURES). We hope you and your kiddo has lots of fun looking for things around the house or neighborhood. You can make it a game. “I spy with my little eye”, or “Let’s go on a shape hunt!” (And you can make binocular eyes)-2 circles around your eyes…
息子は学校で習う踊りや歌がとても好きで、かけると踊ったり歌ったり楽しそうにしています。
綺麗なキャンパス
カピオラニ病院の隣にあり、アラモアナセンターからも車で１０分ほどの便利な場所にあります。高速も近いですが、都会にいることを忘れてしまいそうな静けさと広さにゆとりのあるキャンパスです。セントラルユニオン教会も大きいですね。子供たちは休憩時間のびのびと遊んだり、ランチを外で食べることもあります。
名前だけじゃない？！
日本でどれだけ情報を調べても、詳しくは載っておらず、学校のHPも簡素。ローカルの人にも人気で入るのが難関としか書かれておらず、本当に良い学校なのか、私たちが求める学校なのかわかりませんでした。唯一1人相談した人には、受かったなら絶対行くべきと言われましたが、入ってみると本当に良い学校です。
年中のクラスの先生の洞察力は驚くべきものがあります。teacher parent conferenceなどでのレポートを見たところ分析力が半端なく、ここまで一人一人見てくれているのかと感動しました。
最年少２歳時のクラスの先生もしっかりとみてくれます。子供に温かく接してくれることはもちろんのこと、のびのび、かつ程よく規律正しく指導してくれて、我が家庭の方針とは合致していました。２人の息子は毎日楽しく通っていました。
