I would like to tell you why I have decided to open up SNS lately. Please read below article explaining the current circumstance of me.
Purpose of doing SNS
There are 2 purposes of doing SNS.
1) Like me and my boyfriend, there are around 370,000 people who have been waiting to enter Japan including students, couples and workers. I would like to spread this circumstance to more people and letting them being aware of it.
2) I would like to give positive energy (I really hope) to those who are suffering from Japanese travel ban.
Current Situation that I am facing
I have not been able to meet my oppa(my boyfriend) for 2 years. He got a job offer from major company in Japan and supposed to start work from April of 2021. However, due to entry ban of Japan starting from March of 2020, he has not been able to enter Japan till now even though he got job offer and possesses COE(certification of eligibility). This is very exceptional case and Japan is the one and only country that blocked foreign students and workers from all countries in the world.
Reasons why I have started SNS
Since the beginning of entry ban, there has not been clear information regarding the policy and all I can do is just constantly wait. Not being able to know when the border would be reopened has been very stressful for me. On top of that, since there were no one around me who were facing same circumstance as me, I used to be very lonely. However, one day I looked up the twitter by chance and realized there were many people (including students, workers and couples) raising their voice to Japanese government by using Hashtag. I realized that I was not the only one who has been depressed and stressed out. Simultaneously, I strongly felt I should raise my voice too as Japanese. I kept raising voice via twitter and also got consolation by seeing others who are in similar situation as me.
November of 2021, my dream came true. Japanese government opened up the border for foreigners. However, due to the “Omicron”, border closure started again only after 3 weeks of reopening. On top of that, very few people made to come to Japan during those 3 weeks due to strict entry policy required by the government. I was very upset and depressed. Although many people fighting on twitter against entry ban, there was no reaction by government but rather increasing voice of Japanese citizens going against entry of foreigners. By watching this, I realized the lack of information offered to Japanese citizens and imbalance of information between us and them.
Because of that, I started to believe that becoming influential is important in order to raising awareness of current situation. By doing so, I would like to pressure government not being able to disregarding people like us.
At the same time, I found out reporter on twitter by chance, who hopes to interview those suffering from entry ban. I sent a DM to him, and had made to appear on TV program called “Every” broadcast by 日本テレビ. The content of the interview was also posted on Yahoo news.
Influence of media was bigger than I expected. Many people watched and read. However, when I saw the comments of the article in Yahoo almost all of the comments were negative toward our situation. To be honest, I expected some of that might sympathize with me, but it was not. I was very sad and curious why they could not understand me.
After thinking about this, I realized the time and space limitation of television and article to tell our story in details even though these have power of influence. Since I can only tell 10% of our story, I feel like it was hard to get sympathy by the people via major medias. This is why I have started to open SNS account to tell the whole story without limitation. It would take quiet amount of time to become influential, but it would be appreciated even only one person has become being aware of the current circumstance by my account.
My feeling
I just want to do what I can do! That’s my thought. After considering it, I have decided to do SNS. I do not know much about SNS though. I would like many people to watch mine, but not sure if it would be possible. The present is bleak, but just waiting announcement by the JP without doing nothing is even bleaker for me. I learned this from past 2 years experiences. I would like to give a shot to slim probability!
