I read two short stories this week and had a friend correcting me. I also read some text with another friend and tried translation but after that I couldn't go for another reading session and come up with the new things I've learnt because I didn't have the source.
1. マルは幸せ by ogawa mimei
It was about a cute cat which smelt of face powder and its owner wondered where that smell came from.
This is basically my first time reading Something in Japanese other than texts offered in the textbook I am studying with. I had a tough time with the names couldn't figure out if とめ子 was tomeko or "tome" child. It's possible to call someone "hey come here tome kid" right? And the same thing happened with the other names as well. It was super hard for me even though it was rated for beginners.
2. 似た人 by miyamoto yuriko
Didn't get the exact plot but there were just two friends talking while drinking tea and eating cheese nuts and one of them asked if the other has visited the dye house lately but the other said they didn't. The friend was sure that he saw them there though.
Various kanjis encountered that I don't know. Had trouble with almost the whole story to understand everything but I got the basic sentences that had simple structure.
Something that was very new to me though was how dates are written. For ex I thought 1937 was to be written as 一千九百三十七年 but it was actually as simple as 一九三七年。

This week i read from various sources
1. Downloaded an app that offered japanese stories based on levels. I read 9 short beginner stories and they really fitted my low level. Gained some simple vocab and understood all of the stories without using external help.
2. お星さま by ogawara mimei (Japanese.io)
Felt like a poem of some kind. Someone wondered what should I give as a present? Is it the star? It's too high I can't catch it. Is it water? It's too far away I can't go reach it. If that's the case, then I'll go down. Didn't get exactly what he meant by that sentence at the end, though. 「私が下りていこう」
3. スイッ千 manga
Heard that sports genre can be a good beginner-friendly choice for reading so I chose this one, plot seemed interesting. Raimou is tired of comparison to his older brother so he decided to surpass him in basketball. Read only the first chapter where the two brothers are introduced. Riku is passionate about basketball while his brother raimou is always seen studying but turns out at the end that all that time he was practising alone. Encountered many difficult sentences but the thing as a whole was understood. Hopefully I can do better.
