Born in Saga JAPAN, in 1966.
After graduating the Faculty of Visual Communication Design, the Kyushu Institute of Design (currently the School of Design, Kyushu University), Hachiya started his career by working for a consulting company followed by establishing his company PetWORKs Co., Ltd. His works created are often devices with special functions, such as a series of communication tools "Inter Dis-communication Machine" or "PostPet", a jet-powered skateboard "Air Board", or a personal flight system "OpenSky". Hachiya has been an associate professor of Department of Inter Media Art, Tokyo University of the Arts since October 2010.
