満州で憲法を作っている人達は、どんな中国名を新しい国に命名するか、まだ話し合っています。そして、それが皇帝制か共和国かどうかも。
　共和国制の理論的な優位性は認めながらも、大統領のポジションは政治的な能力と素晴らしい人格が求められ、今のところ、そのようは候補者はいないといったことが話し合われています。彼等は、以前の大統領選挙は国民をガッカリさせると信じています。そのため、清の全皇帝である溥儀が部族の王として即位するだろう。
　外国向けの名前は「自由満州モンゴル政府」とされ、十分に中国語の文字の美辞麗句を並べた、今っぽい音を表現しています。何人かの詩的な政治家は、新しい国家の名前は、支那語、満州語、モンゴル語、韓国語、日本語の全てを含むべきだと思っていたが、他の人達は、それは統一の障害になるし、名前を読めない人達もいると考えています。

「国の名前を考える」ということは、色々なことを考える必要があるので難しいですね。そういえば、Japanって名前もどう決まったんでしょうか？「Manchurian Mongolian Free State」これは長いし、Freeなんてつける必要があったんですかね？「自由」という言葉を強調したかったのかもしれません。新しい国を創るって本当に大変です。

Constitution Makers Want to Put Pu Yi on Throne - Name for State Is Still Sought.

TOKYO, Tuesday, Feb. 9.
The Manchurian Constitution makers still are debating what Chinese name they will give the new State, And whether it will be Imperial or Republican, according to Asahi's Mukden correspondent.
  Admitting the theoretical superiority of republican institutions, they contend the Presidential office requires a person of political ability as well as high character but say Manchuria cannot produce such a candidate now. They believe recurrent Presidential elections will upset the country and, therefore, recommend that Henry Pu Yi, former Emperor of China, be replaced on the throne of his tribal ancestors.
  It has been decided that the foreign name will be Manchurian Mongolian Free State, but a sufficiently flowery combination of Chinese ideographs to express this modern-sounding title remains to be chosen. Some poetical politicians want a combination showing a new State including Chinese, Manchus, Mongolians, Koreans and Japanese, but others hold a name like that would be an obstacle to unity and few could read it.
