WotLK Classic: How to make money on a fresh server?

The strategy I have employed in the past to make money (WotLK Gold) has been monitoring enchanting mats. If I know a green item will yield 2-4 dust, I compare the dust values to the cost of random greens. If I can buy a green piece of shit piece of gear for 50 silver and sell the dust for 1 gold, that is money on the table right there. You also don't want to go overboard and flood the market lowering the values of the dust. This also effectively raises the value of greens which if you are selling green shit could only help. So farm humans, get greens, sell good greens, disenchant bad greens, use the money gained to buy cheap greens, disenchant those greens, and sell dust. This is also generally useful to do on any new expansion launch, it is less useful in the case of new servers where there simply isn't that much WotLK Gold in circulation.

You should also keep in mind that you can struggle all the way to 58 having made less than 100 gold or so and then earn 500 gold just from selling grays and doing quests in the outland in an afternoon. So once you break that threshold your wealth multiplies and as more and more people hit that mark the amount of gold in circulation starts to explode. Suddenly wool cloth goes from 10 silver a stack to 2 gold a stack and people can actually afford to buy it over farming it. There were several times I would have bought all sorts of mats, but I simply couldn't afford them. So leveling crafting professions is a low priority for most people because the mats you farm as you level up are usually not nearly enough to level it up consistently and even when you are prepared to buy the mats to round off your crafting profession progression, you simply might not be able to afford shit. But break into outland and suddenly each quest gives like 2 gold and you can afford to buy anything you want with little effort.

So my last thought is simply don't waste any of your silvers on anything but flights and training until you really need something. Enchanting and herbalism are the best straight money-making combo I know of, especially if you are a Tauren druid. Once you get your flight form for like 3 gold you can just swoop down and pick flowers and fly away without missing a beat. I am level 66 nuking whole packs with very little downtime and using only gear I have gotten from just quests. Between levels 58 and 66 I went from about 100 gold to sitting on 700 gold. The main difference is I was also able to go back and buy ALL the available training on top of having that much currently. There were times when I had to carefully train so as not to go bankrupt and now I don't even need to look at the price of the training. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out that druids get flight form at 60 for like 3 gold and don't need any flight skill training to use it. I haven't played wrath since wrath was new so I didn't realize this and it was a boon for me. What were we talking about?

Mining and herbing are valuable professions but I find it really tedious to try and do both on a single character. Can you track both herbs and ore at the same time? I don't actually know, but if you can't, definitely that wouldn't be an ideal combo. Enchanting pairs well with a gathering profession, but it does tend to take some WotLK Gold to keep it growing in skill as you level and could stall your progression. If you move on to a new area and are no longer able to disenchant the items you find, your options are to go back and farm more greens, which sucks or to buy dust or greens on the AH. So you might hit points where you can't keep leveling enchanting and then it turns into a skill that generates no value. But haveing enchanting ready to go when wrath drops would has potential to make a lot of money imo.
